Georgios Nicholas Papanikolaou ( or George Papanicolaou ; ; Kymi, island of Euboea, Greece, 13 May 1883 – 19 February 1962 ) was a Greek pioneer in cytopathology and early cancer detection, and inventor of the " Pap smear ".
