Created by Johnny Speight, Till Death Us Do Part centred on the East End Garnett family, led by patriarch Alf Garnett ( Warren Mitchell ), a reactionary white working-class man who holds racist and anti-socialist views.

These notably included his home help, Winston ( played by Eamonn Walker ), who was both black and gay, and Alf's prim upstairs neighbour, Mrs Hollingberry ( played by Carmel McSharry ), who eventually agreed to marry Alf.

Two feature films were made based on the series-the first was Till Death Us Do Part ( 1969 ), whose first half dealt with the younger Alf and Else during World War II, and whose second half dealt with all the Garnetts in the present day being moved from their East End slum to the New town of Hemel Hempstead, and the adjustments and changes that brought on the family.

During his time at Dramaten, he made his screen debut in Alf Sjöberg's films Only a Mother ( Bara en mor, 1949 ), and Miss Julie ( Fröken Julie, 1951 ), a screen version of Swedish playwright August Strindberg's well known play.

Dandy Nichols ( 21 May 1907 – 6 February 1986 ) was an English actress most noted for her role as Else Garnett, the long-suffering wife of the racially bigoted and misogynistic character Alf Garnett in the BBC sitcom Till Death Us Do Part.
