Luthor is assisted by the extreme unpopularity of the previous administration's mishandling of the Gotham City earthquake crisis ( as depicted in the No Man's Land storyline in the Batman titles ), and his own seemingly heroic efforts to rebuild Gotham.

Ironically, Batman ultimately learns that the entire debacle was the fault of Luthor alone as he attempted to take control of Gotham by forging deeds for the land in his name, which results in Bruce Wayne severing all commercial ties between the U. S. government and his company, Wayne Enterprises, in protest of Luthor's election as President.

* Gotham City ( the home of Batman ) and Metropolis ( the home of Superman ) have sometimes been presented as twin cities, mainly in 1970s and 1980s stories by DC Comics.

In fact, police officers in Batman ’ s home of Gotham City have used the word " cape " as a shorthand for all superheroes and costumed crimefighters.

For Asheron's Call, Andy Cataldo aka Frelorn has been the Community Manager and has more recently been working on other WB titles including Batman: Arkham City and Gotham City Impostors.

The Mutants disband as a result of his humiliation, forming several smaller gangs, one of which, the " Sons of the Batman ," uses extremely violent methods ( up to and including murder ) to " purge " Gotham of its criminal element.

Batman escapes, but not before another confrontation with the Gotham police, and a citywide manhunt is now on for the Caped Crusader.

In the midst of nuclear winter conditions, Gotham becomes the safest city in America ; the U. S. government, seeing this as an embarrassment, orders Superman to take Batman down.

* Ellen Yin, a supporting character in The Batman, is a clear nod to Ellen Yindel, Police Commissioner of Gotham City in The Dark Knight Returns.

* Elements of The Dark Knight Returns appear in the film The Dark Knight Rises, particularly the central concept of Batman returning to Gotham City after a ten year absence ( which is reduced to eight in the film ).

She states that this Ivy was a vegetable creature from a few years back, that she had created as a distraction for Batman, in order to escape from her old supervillain life in Gotham.

* The character also co-starred in the three-issue comic book miniseries Harley and Ivy, and was given her swan song in the critically acclaimed The Batman Adventures comic book series, which contains stories about Batman's adventures in Gotham City after a break from the Justice League.

A boxing scene in Batman: The Animated Series takes place in a venue called " Gotham Square Garden ".

In the first issue of the new Justice League title ( the first released comic of the New 52 initiative and " opening shot " of the new DC Universe ), Batman is pursued by the Gotham City Police Department while on the trail of an alien, revealed to be an agent of Darkseid.

* The 1966 pilot episode of Batman, " Hi Diddle Riddle ", opens with a daring robbery at the Gotham City World's Fair, using stock footage from the 1964 New York World's Fair.

* The fair was the inspiration and design for the Gotham City's World Fair in the 1993 animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

Upon trying to escape from the Gotham City Police and encountering Batman, played by Michael Keaton, in the chemical plant, Napier shoots Batman who deflects the bullet with his own bullet-proof leather glove.

He parodied this role, portraying " Chief Screaming Chicken " on Batman as a pawn to Vincent Price's Egghead in the villain's attempt to take control of Gotham City.

There is a reference to the book in Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader ?, as Batman lets himself fade into the afterlife he reminisces on the book and sets similar wording to Gotham City.

In the animated spin-off film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, a young Bruce Wayne and his girlfriend attend the Gotham World's Fair, dubbed " The World of Tomorrow " and full of 1930s ' style architecture.

The series also shows that it was Alfred who started the museum, hoping it would be useful if the city of Gotham ever fully accepted Batman, somewhat like the Flash Museum.

In the direct-to-video film The Batman vs. Dracula, it said that Batman's cave is in fact part of a series of Catacombs under Gotham City, which Batman uses to lure Dracula to the cave and subsequently kill him with the new solar generator.

Decades later, noted comic book writer Dennis O ' Neil would have the two Dark Knights meet up in Batman # 253 ( November 1973 ) and Batman # 259 ( December 1974 ) to solve crimes.

The fallout from Riddler's failed scheme is played out in Batman: Gotham Knights # 50-53.

Riddler makes a cameo in the episode " The Knights of Tomorrow " where he is briefly defeated by Batman in a flashback.
