The legend is linked to an idea in the Book of Revelation ( 3: 12 and 21: 2 ) describing a Second Coming, wherein Jesus establishes a new Jerusalem.

The Book of Chronicles is alluded to, though not directly quoted, in the New Testament ( Hebrews 5: 4 ; Matthew 12: 42 ; 23: 35 ; Luke 1: 5 ; 11: 31, 51 ).

Furthermore, there is some admiration of Polybius's meditation on the nature of historiography in Book 12.

In July, 2010, by a vote of 373 to 323, the General Assembly voted to propose to the presbyteries for ratification a constitutional amendment to remove from the Book of Order section G-6. 0106. b. which included this explicit requirement for ordination: “ Among these standards is the requirement to live either in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman ( W-4. 9001 ), or chastity in singleness .” This proposal required ratification by a majority of the 173 presbyteries within 12 months of the General Assembly ’ s adjournment.

William ordered the compilation of the Domesday Book, a survey of the entire population and their lands and property for tax purposes, which reveals that within twenty years of the conquest the English ruling class had been almost entirely dispossessed and replaced by Norman landholders, who also monopolised all senior positions in the government and the Church.

Before the Norman invasion in 1066, the parish of Higher Mutley was owned by a man Alwin of Tamerton, and Lower Mutley by another man called Goodwin, but at the time of the Domesday Book ( 1086 ) both were owned by Odo, whose feudal overlord was Juhel of Totnes.

Evidence that Worksop existed before the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 is provided by the Domesday Book of 1086:

He was soon installed in a new Norman castle at Bramber, to guard the strategically important harbour at Steyning and so began a vigorous boundary dispute and power tussle with the monks from Fécamp Abbey, in Normandy to whom King William I had granted Steyning, brought to a head by the Domesday Book, completed in 1086.

At the Norman Conquest, the king took the manor of Aylesbury for himself, and it is listed as a royal manor in the Domesday Book, 1086.
