The 2001 shoe bomb plot was a failed bombing attempt that occurred on American Airlines Flight 63 flying from Charles De Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France, to Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida, United States, on December 22, 2001.

All 50 occupants of the aircraft were killed at impact and the Douglas DC-4 was demolished as a result of the crash and subsequent fire.

Trans-Texas Airways subsequently changed its name to Texas International Airlines and introduced Douglas DC-9-10 jetliner service from Lake Charles to Houston and New Orleans with direct service to Dallas / Ft.

Another commuter air carrier, Metro Airlines, served Lake Charles as well with Shorts 330 turboprop service to Houston.
