The term " hoosier " began to take on its negative connotation in St. Louis during the mid-1950s when the Chrysler Corporation built a large automobile assembly plant in the St. Louis suburb of Fenton and closed a plant it had been operating in Indiana.

The former Chrysler Corporation acquired the Jeep brand, along with the remaining assets of its owner American Motors, in 1987.

At the same time, Chrysler Corporation wanted to capture the Jeep brand, as well as other assets of AMC.

A European minivan design was conceived in the late 1970s by the Rootes Group in partnership with the French automaker Matra ( which was also affiliated with Simca, the former French subsidiary of the Chrysler Corporation, sold in 1977 to the PSA Group ).

* 1979 – The Chrysler Corporation asks the United States government for USD $ 1. 5 billion to avoid bankruptcy.

* January 7 – U. S. President Jimmy Carter signs legislation approving $ 1. 5 billion in loan guarantees to bail out the Chrysler Corporation.

* March 2 – American Motors Corporation is acquired by the Chrysler Corporation

* June 6 – The Chrysler Corporation is founded by Walter Percy Chrysler.

Seven companies were selected to develop engineering proposals: Chrysler, the Lockheed Corporation, the Douglas Aircraft Company, the Convair Division of General Dynamics, the Firestone Corp., the Sperry-Rand Company, and the Martin Company.

Chevrolet continued into the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s competing with Ford, and after the Chrysler Corporation formed Plymouth in 1928, Plymouth, Ford, and Chevrolet were known as the " Low-priced three ".

The brand was sold to Chrysler Corporation in 1928, passed through the short-lived DaimlerChrysler merger of 1998 – 2007 as part of the Chrysler Group, was a part of Chrysler LLC owned by Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity investment firm, and is now a part of the Chrysler Group LLC, which has an alliance with Fiat.

Eventually Dodge was sold to Chrysler Corporation in 1928.

To fit better in the Chrysler Corporation lineup, alongside low-priced Plymouth and medium-priced DeSoto, Dodge ’ s lineup for early 1930 was trimmed down to a core group of two lines and thirteen models ( from three lines and nineteen models just over a year previous ).

In a move that never lived up to the expectations of its driving forces, Chrysler Corporation merged with Daimler-Benz AG in 1998 to form DaimlerChrysler.

* Forward Look: Virgil Exner's radical " Forward Look " redesign of Chrysler Corporation's vehicles for the 1955 model year was emphasized by the adoption of a logo by the same name, applied to all Chrysler Corporation vehicles.

In a so-called " Merger Of Equals " Daimler-Benz AG and the American automobile manufacturer Chrysler Corporation merged in 1998 in an exchange of shares, and formed DaimlerChrysler AG.

In a press release by then Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca, it was indicated that Chrysler was working on a car that would bow as the " Liberty ".

These deficiencies are considered by the automotive press to have hurt the Five Hundred's potential appeal, especially in comparison to the Chrysler 300, another new full-sized sedan introduced around the same time, though the 300 is more upmarket and designed to be more sporty.

A Chrysler Plymouth press release dated 30 June 1970 stated that the Cricket was going to be shown to the automotive press for the first time in November 1970.

The automotive press was critical of the Chrysler TC, observing its similarity to the Chrysler LeBaron GTS convertible that cost much less.

The new Valiant Charger was unlike anything that had come before and it had the Australian motoring press calling it, "... the most handsome car Chrysler has ever produced, and probably the best looking car ever produced by an Australian manufacturer ".

After a remarkably short development period of just 19 months, the Chrysler Sunbeam was launched on the July 23, 1977, to a quite positive reception of the British automotive press.

Although the Scarab garnered acres of press coverage, at $ 5, 000 ( equivalent to $ 80, 000 in 2010, when a luxurious and ultra-modern Chrysler Imperial Airflow cost just $ 1, 345 ), very few would pay this hefty premium for innovation, and total production of the Scarab amounted to no more than nine units.

Prior to the release of NeXTSTEP, Chrysler planned to buy 3, 000 copies in 1992.

Ford's Mustang gave this type of vehicle its common " pony car " moniker, but in fact Chrysler beat Ford to market by two weeks with the April 1, 1964 release of the Barracuda fastback.

Chrysler began building cars with EL panel lighting for the 1960 model year.

A division of Chrysler Group LLC, the most recent successor company to the Jeep brand, now holds trademark status on the name " Jeep " and the distinctive 7-slot front grille design.

On 4 January 1977, Montoneros guerrillas shot and killed Private Guillermo Félix Dimitri of the 10th Mechanized Infantry Brigade on a drive-by shooting while he was on roadblock duty outside the Chrysler factory in the San Justo suburb of Buenos Aires.

Full-time all-wheel drive was introduced to North American minivans in 1990 with the Ford Aerostar's E-4WD option, followed in 1991 by the Toyota Previa All-Trac, and in 1992 on models made by Chrysler.

Chrysler had also been developing a minivan based on the Chrysler K platform, releasing the boxy Dodge Caravan / Plymouth Voyager earlier than the Espace, in 1983.

Borrowing the recently introduced Chrysler Horizon from their European division, Dodge was able to get its new Omni subcompact on the market fairly quickly.

With bailout money in hand, Chrysler quickly set to work on new models that would leave the past behind.

Firms such as Boeing, General Motors, Allen-Bradley, Chrysler, Eaton, and Whirlpool have worked on fuzzy logic for use in low-power refrigerators, improved automotive transmissions, and energy-efficient electric motors.
