Frederick Bean " Fred / Tex " Avery ( February 26, 1908 – August 26, 1980 ) was an American animator, cartoonist, voice actor and director, famous for producing animated cartoons during The Golden Age of Hollywood animation.

Tex Avery was born to George Walton Avery ( b. June 8, 1867-d. January 14, 1935 ) and the former Mary Augusta " Jessie " Bean ( 1886 – 1931 ) in Taylor, Texas.

One of their sons, Avery Dulles ( 1918 – 2008 ), converted to Roman Catholicism, entered the Jesuit order and became the first American priest to be directly appointed a Cardinal.
