In the summer of 1839, Poe became assistant editor of Burton's Gentleman's Magazine.

The 1744 version of the song was popularised in Scotland and England the following year, with the landing of Charles Edward Stuart and was published in The Gentleman's Magazine ( see illustration above ).

The Gentleman's Magazine, first published in 1731, in London, is considered to have been the first general-interest magazine.

Edward Cave, who edited The Gentleman's Magazine under the pen name " Sylvanus Urban ," was the first to use the term " magazine ," on the analogy of a military storehouse of varied materiel, ultimately derived from the Arabic makhazin (" storehouses ") by way of the French language.

In letters in The Gentleman's Magazine it was reported that the tree was cut down and burned during the 18th century.

Reports on Indian rhinoplasty performed by a Kumhar vaidya were published in the Gentleman's Magazine by 1794.

" Another essay, published in the December 1733 issue of The Gentleman's Magazine, explained the popularity of " Christmas Pye " as perhaps " owing to the Barrenness of the Season, and the Scarcity of Fruit and Milk, to make Tarts, Custards, and other Desserts ", but also possibly bearing " a religious kind of Relation to the Festivity from which it takes its Name.

It can be found in The Gentleman's Magazine, published in 1790, and The Monthly Review, published in 1749.

The motto was almost certainly taken from the title page of Gentleman's Magazine, a monthly magazine published in London which had used it from its first edition in 1731, and was well known in the colonies.

In November 1795, Gentleman's Magazine reported that " Joe Pullen, the famous elm, upon Headington hills, had one of its large branches torn off and carried to a great distance.

In the spring of 1844, The Gentleman's Magazine attributed a sudden burst of charitable giving in Britain to Dickens's novella ; in 1874, Robert Louis Stevenson waxed enthusiastic after reading Dickens's Christmas books and vowed to give generously ; and Thomas Carlyle expressed a generous hospitality by staging two Christmas dinners after reading the book.

For example, it was the birthplace of the Gentleman's Magazine in 1731, and the scene of Dr Johnson's work in connection with that journal.

His obituary appeared in the March 1792 edition of The Gentleman's Magazine.

Poe first published the story in the May 1842 edition of Graham's Lady's and Gentleman's Magazine as " The Mask of the Red Death ", with the tagline " A Fantasy ".

He published an account on 3 November 1783 of Sunday schools in his paper, and later word of the work spread through the Gentleman's Magazine, and in 1784, a letter to the Arminian Magazine.

At the time the incident received little attention, but it was reported in The Gentleman's Magazine in June 1731:

The Gentleman's Magazine reported that on 20 July 1739 Vice Admiral Edward Vernon and a squadron of warships departed England for the West Indies, and that on 21 July, " Notice was given by the Lords of the Admiralty, that in pursuance of his Majesty's Commission under the Great Seal, Letters of Marque or General Reprisals against the Ships, Goods and Subjects of the King of Spain, were ready to be issued.

There is an account of his life in the Gentleman's Magazine for April ( 1742 ) by Samuel Johnson.

When he died on 11 June 1796, the Gentleman's Magazine claimed that he was " worth over a million pounds ".

Gentleman's Agreement is a 1947 drama film about a journalist ( played by Gregory Peck ) who goes undercover as a Jew to conduct research for an exposé on antisemitism in New York City and the affluent community of Darien, Connecticut.

Crossfire ( 1947 ) is a film noir drama film which deals with the theme of anti-Semitism, as did that year's Academy Award for Best Picture winner, Gentleman's Agreement.

Following the long-term additions of drummer Frank Funaro and keyboard player Kenny Margolis, the band tried again in 1998 with Gentleman's Blues, with " The Good Life " as the lead single.

" His first such " issue " film was Gentleman's Agreement ( 1947 ), with Gregory Peck, which dealt with subtle anti-Semitism in America.

Two years later he directed Gentleman's Agreement, where he tackled a seldom-discussed topic in America, antisemitism, for which he won his first Oscar as Best Director.
