Gavin MacLeod ( born Allan George See, February 28, 1931 ) is an American actor notable for playing Joseph " Happy " Haines on McHale's Navy, Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Captain Merrill Stubing on The Love Boat.

On East Market Street and nearby stood the area residences of George L. Stallman, Charles E. Tucker, Mahlon N. Haines, Congressman E. S.

Terry and Frisch shepherded the selections of Jesse Haines in 1970, Bancroft and Chick Hafey in 1971, Ross Youngs in 1972, George Kelly in 1973, Jim Bottomley in 1974, and Freddie Lindstrom in 1976.

Directors included Will Ashton ( 1944 – 47 ), Marion Hall Best ( 1947 – 49 ), John Amory ( 1949 – 50 ), M P Ferrandiere ( 1950 – 53 ), George Duncan ( 1953 – 63 ) and Robert Haines ( 1963 –?).

Haines was probably born on January 2, 1900 in Staunton, Virginia, the third child of George Adam Haines, a cigar maker, and Laura Virginia Haines ( née Matthews ).

In the years just prior to his death, a number of Frisch's Giants and Cardinals teammates were elected to the Hall ; some notable writers, chiefly among them Bill James, have criticized these selections-including Jesse Haines, Dave Bancroft, Chick Hafey, Rube Marquard, Ross Youngs and George Kelly-which include some of the most widely questioned honorees in the Hall's history.

Members included Marcia Williams, George Wigg, Joe Haines, and Bernard Donoughue.
