* Grenville's final battle on Revenge is commemorated in a poem by Alfred Tennyson (" The Revenge ").

White was sent by Sir Walter Raleigh as Sir Richard Grenville's artist-illustrator on his first voyage to the New World ; he served as mapmaker and artist to the expedition, which encountered considerable difficulties and returned to England in 1586.

Grenville's fleet departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five main ships: the Tiger ( Grenville's ), the Roebuck, the Red Lion, the Elizabeth, and the Dorothy.

In June 1569, soon after Grenville's sailing for England, Fitzmaurice camped outside the walls of Waterford and demanded that Grenville's wife and Lady St Leger be given over to him, along with all the English and all prisoners ; the citizens refused.

In February 1806 he became Chancellor of the Exchequer in Lord Grenville's Ministry of All the Talents, being at this time member for the University of Cambridge ; but he lost both his seat and his office in 1807.

His departure from the post coincided with the end of George Grenville's term as Prime Minister.

After George Grenville's death in 1770 Lord Temple retired almost completely from public life.
