Heytesbury was the eldest son of Sir William à Court, 1st Baronet, and Laetitia, daughter of Henry Wyndham.

The name derived from a suggestion by the owner of a local village inn, Elliott Armstrong, who sought to honour Scottish soldier Sir Henry Wyndham.

The popularly reported European discovery of the okapi in 1901, earlier hinted at but unseen by Henry Morton Stanley in his travelogue of exploring the Congo, later became the emblem for the now defunct International Society of Cryptozoology.

One of the possible influences for the Kurtz character was Henry Morton Stanley of " Dr. Livingstone, I presume " fame, as he was a principal explorer of " The Dark Heart of Africa ", particularly the Congo.
