Herbert Beerbohm Tree produced Beau Austin at the Haymarket on 3 November 1890.

By 1900 however, the first all-British 4-wheel car was designed and built by Herbert Austin, manager of the Wolseley Sheep Shearing Company later becoming Wolseley Motors Limited in Birmingham.

In 1929 production was dominated by Morris ( founded by William Morris in 1910 in Oxford ) and Austin ( founded by Herbert Austin in Longbridge in 1905 after he left Wolseley ) which between them produced around 60 % of total UK output.

At that time, Herbert Austin was looking for somebody to direct his company, his only son having been killed during the war.

In 1927, in competition against — amongst others — Herbert Austin, Morris purchased the bankrupt Wolseley Motors and the company passed into his personal control.

He was also a pioneer motorist and a personal friend of car manufacturers in the area including, notably, Herbert Austin, becoming a supplier of sheet steel components to the industry.

Sankey's steel wheels went into production in 1908: early customers included Herbert Austin and William Morris.

He was the Liberal candidate for Birmingham King's Norton in the 1918 general election, but lost to Herbert Austin.

The relief road involved widening a part of an existing road Bell Lane, a new by pass was also built and named, " Sir Herbert Austin Way " in recognition of Herbert Austin, 1st Baron Austin who started producing cars at the Longbridge plant and built Austin Village in the Northfield part of Turves Green.

George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon ( 26 June 1866 – 5 April 1923 ) was an English aristocrat best known as the financial backer of the search for and the excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings.

Born at the family home, Highclere Castle, in Hampshire on 26 June 1866, George Herbert was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, succeeding to the Carnarvon title in 1890.

Mary Elizabeth Anne Dalberg-Acton ( 1866 – 1951 ), married Lt-Col. Edward Bleiddian Herbert and had issue.

Together they had three children: Charles Herbert ( b. 1866 ), Robert C. ( b. 1869 ), and Lida B.

He gained recognition by degrees, and in 1866 he was engage by Ruth Herbert as her leading man and sometime stage director at the St. James's Theatre, London, where her first played Doricourt in The Belle's Stratagem.
