Many of Howard's original unedited Conan stories also form part of the Cthulhu Mythos.

In his fictional historical essay " The Hyborian Age ", Howard describes how the people of Atlantis — the land where his character King Kull originated — had to move east after a great cataclysm changed the face of the world and sank their island, settling where Ireland and Scotland would eventually be located, Thus they are ( in Howard's work ) the ancestors of the Irish and Scottish ( the Celtic Gaels ) and not the Picts, the other ancestor of modern Scots who also appear in Howard's work.

Another noticeable trait is his sense of humor, largely absent in the comics and movies but very much a part of Howard's original vision of the character, particularly apparent in " Xuthal of the Dusk ", also known as " The Slithering Shadow.

Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, Kull the Conqueror, and Solomon Kane also have real life existences in the Marvel Universe.

She also appeared in a 1988 remake of Roger Vadim's provocative And God Created Woman, Ron Howard's Backdraft ( 1991 ) and in 1993, starred as a defense lawyer in Sidney Lumet's murder drama Guilty as Sin.

He was also known for his sword and sorcery, a fantasy genre he was instrumental in reviving through his editorial work on and continuation of Robert E. Howard's " Conan " cycle.

Arthur, Howard's younger brother, was also an actor, primarily in British comedies.

He appears to be based on the Marvel Comics villain of the same name, although a Three Stooges reference suggests he may also have been inspired by Shemp Howard's character named Hammerhead in The Invisible Woman.

Hermann Muthesius also played an important role in the creation of Germany's first garden city of Hellerau in 1909, the only German garden city where Howard's ideas were thoroughly adopted.

Howard's ideas also influenced other planners such as Frederick Law Olmsted II and Clarence Perry.

The song was also featured in Martin Scorsese's film Mean Streets ( 1973 ), in Ron Howard's Night Shift and at the end of Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Johnny Hon was also to rejoin the board as vice-chairman after John Howard's resignation on conflict of interests grounds ( owing to his ownership of Bideawhile 445 Ltd, United's landlords ).

Some authors identify him as the Stygian serpent god Set from Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, and also with the Great Serpent worshiped by the Serpent People of Valusia from Howard's Kull stories.

From 1914 to 1924, he served as a Professor of Botany at Howard University in Washington, D. C., and also served from 1914 to 1920 as the Acting Dean at the Howard's School of Education.

Lymington was also occasionally featured in the 1980s BBC series Howard's Way.

Louhi was the main antagonist in the Finnish-Soviet film Sampo, and was also an inspiration for a foe of Conan the Barbarian's in the Marvel comics version of the character ( no such foe ever appears in Howard's stories ), the Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light boss character Louhi the Witch of the North, the Final Fantasy XI item Louhi's Mask, and the orchestral work Louhi by the Finnish composer Kalevi Aho.

However, despite his rather cruel demeanor towards his pals, Howard's character was also very loyal and protective of the other Stooges, keeping them from harm and, should it befall them, doing whatever it took to save them.

He was also a critic of then Prime Minister John Howard's policies towards Indigenous Australians – most notably Howard's refusal to make an apology to the Stolen Generation.

Bogart never forgot Howard's favor, and in 1952 he named his only daughter " Leslie Howard " after Howard, who had died in World War II under mysterious circumstances.

In 1688-1689 it was " 4th The Lord High Admiral's Regiment " until 1751 it was named as other regiments after the Colonel Commanding being the 3rd ( Howard's ) Regiment of Foot from 1737-1743 at which point it became the 3rd Regiment of Foot, " Howard's Buffs ".

In order to avoid confusion ( because regiments were then named after their colonels, which would have made them both Howard's Regiment of Foot ), the regiments took the colours of their facings as part of their names-the 19th Foot became the Green Howards, while the 3rd Foot became Howard's Buffs, eventually being shortened to simply The Buffs.

Though the villain in the film Conan the Barbarian is named Thulsa Doom, after an evil wizard in Howard's Kull stories, he more closely resembled Thoth-Amon.

He appears on a laptop or projection screen except on his own TV show, interacting either with Big Howard, the audience, or with other animated characters ( including the pigeon Roger, his manager, and H: BOT 2000 ( named as MOTHER on Little Howard's Big Question ), a funny robot from the future ).

In 1569, on 1 October, Philip Howard's father, Thomas Howard, was arrested for his intrigues against Queen Elizabeth I.

Although not formalised and acknowledged as a mythos per se, Lovecraft did correspond with contemporary writers ( Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, Robert Bloch, Frank Belknap Long, Henry Kuttner, and Fritz Lieber – a group referred to as the " Lovecraft Circle ") – and shared story elements: Robert E. Howard's character Friedrich Von Junzt reads Lovecraft's Necronomicon in the short story " The Children of the Night " ( 1931 ), and in turn Lovecraft mentions Howard's Unaussprechlichen Kulten in the stories " Out of the Aeons " ( 1935 ) and " The Shadow Out of Time " ( 1936 ).

According to some scholars, Howard's conception of Conan and the Hyborian Age may have originated in Thomas Bulfinch's The Outline of Mythology ( 1913 ) which inspired Howard to " coalesce into a coherent whole his literary aspirations and the strong physical, autobiographical elements underlying the creation of Conan.

The Gnome Press edition ( 1950 – 1957 ) was the first hardcover collection of Howard's Conan stories, including all the original Howard material known to exist at the time, some left unpublished in his lifetime.

Regular subplots since the 1980s included: Howard and Marina trying to have an affair without Howard's wife finding out ( a variation of the Wainwright-Partridge subplot of the 1970s ), the older women meeting for tea and discussing their theories about men and life, Auntie Wainwright trying to sell unwanted merchandise to unsuspecting customers, Smiler trying to find a woman, Barry trying to better himself ( at the insistence of Glenda ), and Tom trying to stay one step ahead of the repo man.

The Australian centre-left then Opposition Leader, Kevin Rudd, used the term to criticize the economic policies of the Howard Government, notably in an essay in the November 2006 issue of The Monthly magazine entitled " Howard's Brutopia: The Battle of Ideas in Australian Politics ".
