Back in the studio, seeking a change from the doo-wop styled pop sound of " Only the Lonely " and " I'm Hurtin '", Orbison worked on a new song, " Running Scared ", based loosely on the rhythm of Ravel's Boléro ; the song was about a man on lookout for his girlfriend's previous boyfriend, who he feared would try to take her away.

Although Orbison recorded and wrote standard structure songs before " Only the Lonely ", he claimed never to have learned how to write them: " I'm sure we had to study composition or something like that at school, and they'd say ' This is the way you do it ,' and that's the way I would have done it, so being blessed again with not knowing what was wrong or what was right, I went on my own way .... So the structure sometimes has the chorus at the end of the song, and sometimes there is no chorus, it just goes ... But that's always after the fact — as I'm writing, it all sounds natural and in sequence to me.

Merritt wrote and sang " I'm In a Lonely Way " in a television commercial for Volvo that aired in the summer and fall of 2007.

The non-U. S. singles were " Nobody Knows ," a minor hit in the UK, Australia and Germany ; " Dear Mr. President ," an open letter to the U. S. President George W. Bush ( featuring the Indigo Girls ) and a number 1 hit in Belgium, a top five hit in Germany, Australia and other countries ; " Leave Me Alone ( I'm Lonely )," a UK top 40 and Australian top five entry ; and "' Cuz I Can.

Among the singles released that became signature hits for the group are " Quicksand ", " In My Lonely Room ", " Live Wire ", " Nowhere to Run ", " A Love Like Yours ( Don't Come Knocking Everyday )", " I'm Ready for Love ", " Jimmy Mack ", " Honey Chile " and the group's most popular single, " Dancing in the Street ".

Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, most prominently on " Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds ", " When I'm Sixty-Four ", " Lovely Rita ", and " A Day in The Life ", as well as " Only A Northern Song ", " I Me Mine ", and the lead-guitar introducing " Revolution ".

In 1964, he moved to a new label ( Baltimore's Ru-Jac Records ) and released " I'm a Lonely Stranger ".

The album spawned three top ten hits in " Free Me " (# 7 ), " Guiding Star " (# 9 ), " Live the Dream " (# 7 ) and one top twenty hit with the 4th single from the album " I'm So Lonely " (# 14 ), a ballad written during a period of bleak loneliness in a Japanese hotel room.

This movie, and I'm not saying it's the greatest movie ever made, but it represents many things that I think are worth aspiring to, such as having character and emotion be the driving force, rather than the plot .... When I first saw In a Lonely Place as a teenager, it frightened me and yet attracted me with an almost hypnotic power.

After the successful Bet You Think I'm Lonely album, the band partnered with Nettwerk for the production of their albums.

The success of Bet You Think I'm Lonely also earned the band a Juno Award nomination for Best New Band.

He resumed recording in 1959 with his first minor hit, " I'm a Lonely Man ," written by Little Milton, who was Bobbin Records A & R man, a fellow guitar hero, and responsible for King's signing with the label.

The reunion led to other collaborations including a limited-edition single release version of Placebo's track " Without You I'm Nothing ", co-produced by Visconti, with Bowie's harmonised vocal added to the original recording.

In November, he joined Placebo on stage at their Wembley Arena gig to sing the band's hit song " Without You I'm Nothing ", as well as The Cure staple " Boys Don't Cry ".

A version of the song " Without You I'm Nothing ", which originally appeared on the album with the same name, featured a duet containing both Molko and Bowie.

In 1998, Placebo switched to the major label Virgin Records, and issued their album Without You I'm Nothing in November.

The first two singles from Without You I'm Nothing, " You Don't Care About Us " and " Pure Morning ", were the peak of their British success, both charting in the top ten.

Since Without You I'm Nothing, the band have received less positive coverage from the British music press, who, on occasion, have mocked the perceived pretension of frontman Molko.

A re-sequenced version released in the United States featured a slightly different track listing, adding the aforementioned Bowie version of " Without You I'm Nothing " and the band's cover of Depeche Mode's " I Feel You ".

Their style altered little from Without You I'm Nothing to Black Market Music, based around fairly straightforward guitar playing, often influenced by the style of 1970s British and American rock, and Molko's high-pitched vocals.

Black Market Music did not receive the same level of long term recognition and media hype as Without You I'm Nothing did, but its peak sales outperformed those of its predecessor in both the UK and France.

That same year, they played a one-night-only gig at Wembley Arena in which Robert Smith of The Cure made a guest appearance on two tracks, " Without You I'm Nothing " and a cover of The Cure's " Boys Don't Cry ".

In their review for the gig, Rock Sound wrote that the new album is a heavier-sounding record compared to its predecessor and recalls the atmosphere of Without You I'm Nothing.
