According to the Julian calendar and Annunciation Style of enumerating years, then in use in the British Empire, Washington was born on February 11, 1731 ; when the Gregorian calendar was implemented in the British Empire in 1752, in accordance with the provisions of the Calendar ( New Style ) Act 1750, his birth date became February 22, 1732.

Annunciation Style continued to be used officially in the Kingdom of Great Britain until 1 January 1752, except Scotland which changed to Circumcision Style dating on 1 January 1600, the Act being passed on 17 December 1599.

On 17 March 1649 a French expedition of 203 men from Martinique, led by Jacques Dyel du Parquet who had been the Governor of Martinique on behalf of the Compagnie des Iles de l ' Amerique ( Company of the Isles of America ) since 1637, landed at St. Georges Harbour and constructed a fortified settlement, which they named Fort Annunciation.

The feast of the Annunciation ( which commemorates the virginal conception and the Incarnation of Jesus ) is celebrated on 25 March, nine months before Christmas Day.

The most important of these fixed feasts is the Great Feast of the Annunciation ( March 25 ), which is considered to be so important that it is never moved, even if it should fall on the Sunday of Pascha itself ( a rare and special occurrence which is known as Kyrio-Pascha ).

As the action initiating the Incarnation of Christ, Annunciation has such an important place in Eastern theology that the Festal Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is always celebrated on March 25, regardless of what day it falls on — even if it falls on Pascha ( Easter Sunday ) itself, a coincidence which is called Kyriopascha.

Some years 10 Nisan falls on March 25, which is the traditional date for the Feast of the Annunciation and is an official holiday in Lebanon.

The feast of the Annunciation is usually held on March 25 ; it is moved in the Catholic Church, Anglican and Lutheran liturgical calendars when this date would fall during Holy Week or Easter Week or on a Sunday.

If Easter is very early, the solemnity of the Annunciation ( 25 March ) may fall within the octave or Holy Week and is then transferred to the Monday after the octave.
