The poet Ezra Pound's 1934 injunction to " Make it new!

In 1913 — the year of Edmund Husserl's Ideas, Niels Bohr's quantized atom, Ezra Pound's founding of imagism, the Armory Show in New York, and, in Saint Petersburg, the " first futurist opera ," Victory Over the Sun — another Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, working in Paris for Sergei Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, composed The Rite of Spring for a ballet, choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky, that depicted human sacrifice.

* The first canto of Ezra Pound's The Cantos ( 1922 ) is both a translation and a retelling of Odysseus ' journey to the underworld.

The critic for Time magazine acknowledged the critical storm around Fleming and Dr. No, but was broadly welcoming of the book, writing that whilst " not all readers will agree that Dr. No ... is magnificent writing, ... pages of it, at least, qualify for Ezra Pound's classic comment on Tropic of Cancer: ' At last, an unprintable book that is readable '.

With Lady Ottoline Morrell, Leonard Woolf and Harry Norton he took part in Ezra Pound's scheme to ' get Eliot out of the bank ' ( Eliot had a job in the international department of Lloyd's, a London bank, and well-meaning friends wanted him full-time writing poetry ).

In Ezra Pound's Cantos, she is one of the goddess figures who comes to the poet's aid in Section: Rock-Drill ( Cantos 85 – 95 ).

" In October 1923 in Ezra Pound's Paris flat, Ford Madox Ford convinced Joyce to contribute some of his new writings to the Transatlantic Review, a new journal Ford was editing.

Although Imagism isolates objects through the use of what Ezra Pound called " luminous details ", Pound's Ideogrammic Method of juxtaposing concrete instances to express an abstraction is similar to Cubism's manner of synthesizing multiple perspectives into a single image.

In the early 20th century Ezra Pound's anti-usury poetry was not primarily based on the moral injustice of interest but on the fact that excess capital was no longer devoted to artistic patronage, as it could now be used for capitalist business investment.

Carter was also present at the 2009 Aldeburgh Festival to hear the world premiere of his song-cycle On Conversing with Paradise, based on Ezra Pound's Canto 95 ( from the section Rock-Drill ) and one of Pound's ' Notes ' intended for later Cantos, and usually published at the end of the Cantos .< ref >

Among the works published by the Poetry Bookshop were collections by Charlotte Mew and Richard Aldington as well as Ezra Pound's seminal 1914 anthology Des Imagistes.

The poem was reprinted in Pound's collection Lustra in 1917, and again in the 1926 anthology Personae: The Collected Poems of Ezra Pound, which compiled his early pre-Hugh Selwyn Mauberley works.

The self-definition of movements, dating back at least to Ezra Pound's efforts on behalf of Imagism, could be linked on one front to the production of an anthology of the like-minded.

The early reception of T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound's poetry, and also the reading of Gerard Manley Hopkins, were considerably enhanced by Leavis's proclamation of their greatness.

Ezra Pound's famous Imagist poem, In a Station of the Metro, was inspired by this station.

Gaudier-Brzeska's drawing style was influenced by the Chinese calligraphy and poetry which he discovered at the " Ezuversity ", Ezra Pound's unofficial locus of teaching.

In the 20th century Ezra Pound's poem " Homage to Sextus Propertius " cast Propertius as something of a satirist and political dissident, and his translation / interpretation of the elegies presented them as ancient examples of Pound's own Imagist theory of art.

# Arabic ( also Arabist or Hispano-Arabic ) Referring to the songs of the troubadours, Ezra Pound wrote in his Canto VIII that William of Aquitaine " had brought the song up out of Spain / with the singers and viels ".

Ezra Pound includes Santayana among his many cultural references in The Cantos, notably in " Canto LXXXI " and " Canto XCV ".

Ezra Pound refers to him near the beginning of Canto 74 ( the first of the Pisan Cantos ): " To build the city of Dioce whose terraces are the color of stars.

Ezra Pound mentions him in Canto VIII:

Divus was also used more directly by Ezra Pound in his long poem The Cantos, in particular for the opening Canto I.

At the same time the Septuagint translates the last clause of Malachi 1: 1, " by the hand of his messenger ," and the Targum reads, " by the hand of my angel, whose name is called Ezra the scribe.

" In Ezra and he is called " the son of Iddo ," who was properly his grandfather.

Although the poem states that he fled " from home in Spain / Going down to Rome with heavy spirit ," this does not resolve the question of what intermediate journeys Ibn Ezra may have made before settling in Rome, possibly in the company of R ' Yehudah HaLevi.

* Moznayim ( 1140 ), chiefly an explanation of the terms used in Hebrew grammar ; as early as 1148 it was incorporated by Judah Hadassi in his Eshkol ha-Kofer, with no mention of Ibn Ezra ( see " Monatsschrift ," xl.

* Sefer ha-Yesod, or Yesod Diqduq, ( see Bacher, " Abraham ibn Ezra als Grammatiker ," pp. 8 – 17 ).

His magnum opus, La infana raso ( The Infant Race ), is a long poem that, in Auld's words, explores " the role of the human race in time and in the cosmos ," and is based heavily on The Cantos by Ezra Pound.

Eliakim Carmoly (" Ẓiyyon ," i. 46 ) concludes that the Isaac who was so violently attacked by Abraham ibn Ezra in the introduction to his commentary on the Pentateuch, and whom he calls in other places " Isaac the Prattler ", and " Ha-Yiẓḥaḳ ," was no other than Isaac Israeli.
