He married Joanna, Countess of Flanders and Hainaut, daughter of the Latin Emperor Baldwin I, in 1237.
In 1496, Joanna, at the age of sixteen, was betrothed to Philip the Handsome, Duke of Burgundy ( titular ), in the region of Flanders in the Low Countries.

Joanna of Flanders ( c. 1295 – September 1374 ), also known as Countess Jeanne, Jehanne de Montfort, and Jeanne la Flamme, was consort Duchess of Brittany by her marriage to John IV, Duke of Brittany.
