The concluding episodes of the fourth season, " The Stolen Earth "/" Journey's End ", reveal that Davros was thought to have died during the first year of the Time War, when his command ship " flew into the jaws of the Nightmare Child " at the Gates of Elysium, despite the Doctor's failed efforts to save him.

However, the Daleks return in " Bad Wolf "/" The Parting of the Ways " ( 2005 ), and subsequently in " Army of Ghosts "/" Doomsday " ( 2006 ), " Daleks in Manhattan "/" Evolution of the Daleks " ( 2007 ), " The Stolen Earth "/" Journey's End " ( 2008 ) and " Victory of the Daleks " ( 2010 ), the penultimate of these being the series 4 finale where Davros also returns, and the final of these being the first time the Eleventh Doctor meets the Daleks.

His success directing the 1928 play Journey's End led to his move to the United States, first to direct the play on Broadway and then to Hollywood to direct motion pictures.

In 1928 Whale was offered the opportunity to direct two private performances of R. C. Sherriff's then-unknown play Journey's End for the Incorporated Stage Society, a theatre society that mounted private Sunday performances of plays.

Set over a four-day period in March 1918 in the trenches at Saint-Quentin, France, Journey's End gives a glimpse into the experiences of the officers of a British Army infantry company in World War I.

After three weeks at the Savoy, Journey's End transferred to the Prince of Wales Theatre, where it ran for the next two years.

With the success of Journey's End at home, Broadway producer Gilbert Miller acquired the rights to mount a New York production with an all-British cast headed by Colin Keith-Johnston as Stanhope and Derek Williams as Raleigh.

The success of the various productions of Journey's End brought Whale to the attention of film producers.

With work completed, Whale headed to Chicago to direct another company of Journey's End.

Having purchased the film rights to Journey's End, British producers Michael Balcon and Thomas Welsh agreed that Whale's experience directing the London and Broadway productions of the play made him the best choice to direct the film.

Journey's End was released in Great Britain on 14 April and in the United States on 15 April.

Gaines won in three of the categories ( and four of the five nominations ), missing only for the performance in Journey's End.

He remained in the Academy thereafter until the Traveler re-contacted him, whereupon he resigned his commission and went with the Traveler to explore other planes of reality (" Journey's End ").

Two other Time Lord-like beings appeared in the episode " Journey's End ": Donna Noble, briefly empowered with the mind and knowledge of a Time Lord, and a half-human clone of the Doctor.

In the Series 4 episode " Journey's End ", the Tenth Doctor was shown to use his telepathic abilities to wipe Donna Noble's mind of certain memories, specifically the memories of her travels in the TARDIS and to ' implant ' a defence mechanism which is activated in ' The End of Time '.

In the film during Captain Riker's and Commander Troi's wedding the character of Wesley Crusher is seen, even though in the TNG episode " Journey's End " he was seen leaving with the Traveler.
