Abdul Alhazred acts as vizier to King Calaphim and Queen Allaria in The Land of the Green Isles in King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.

Many people were buying new, more powerful computers expressly for games, and the days were long-gone when people would be satisfied with simple vectored line drawings, such as those that made the Wizardry games famous, or with the blocky graphics that were used in Sierra Entertainment's King's Quest games.

The book is similar to Peter Spear's The King's Quest Companion and The Official Uncensored Leisure Suit Larry Bedside Companion.

Unlike previous collections, this does not come with any printed documentation ( instead including PDF files containing the original manuals for copy protection purposes ), and the " Runs on Windows XP " blurb on the box is justified by an included copy of freeware application DOSBox, leaving many to see this edition ( and the simultaneous releases of the Police Quest, King's Quest and Space Quest collections ) as a cash-in to measure the viability of future games in the series.

The book, like other Sierra books by Peter Spear such as The King's Quest Companion, was revised and edited so that there was a second edition ( 1991 ) covering Larry V.

It was recreated for the video games Spy Hunter ( 2001 ), King's Quest V, Lego Indiana Jones, Sonic Unleashed and Civilization V and appeared in the novels Left Behind, Appointment with Death, The Eagle in the Sand and The Red Sea Sharks, the nineteenth book in The Adventures of Tintin series.

It is a prelude to the King's Quest series in both story and concept.

In the summer of 1984, King's Quest was released to much acclaim.

A long series of Leisure Suit Larry games would follow in the coming years and become the second best selling game series of Sierra On-Line after King's Quest.

In 1990, Sierra released King's Quest V. It would be the first Sierra On-Line game ever to sell more than 500, 000 copies and was the highest selling game for the next five years.

Sierra On-Line's King's Quest IV became the first game-title to support the AdLib.

The name Gwydion also appears in the Sierra game King's Quest III, where a Prince Alexander of Daventry has been kidnapped by an evil wizard named Manannan who renames him Gwydion.

Many industry firsts were achieved in Oakhurst including the development of the first 3D adventure game ( King's Quest, 1984 ) and one of the first online gaming networks ( The Sierra Network, 1989 ).

From the 1980s to 1990s, the popular King's Quest series of adventure games was set in a fictional kingdom of Daventry, entirely unrelated to the real Daventry other than the name.

At the request of Christian II of Denmark, Dürer went to Brussels to paint the King's portrait.

Other areas damaged during World War II bombing included: in September 1940 two unexploded bombs hit the Edward VII galleries, the King's Library received a direct hit from a high explosive bomb, incendiaries fell on the dome of the Round Reading Room but did little damage ; on the night of 10 to 11 May 1941 several incendiaries fell on the south west corner of the Museum, destroying the book stack and 150, 000 books in the courtyard and the galleries around the top of the Great Staircase – this damage was not fully repaired until the early 1960s.
