It is reported in the Bible during the siege of Samaria ( 2 Kings 6: 25 – 30 ).

However the Prussian Kings up to William II, German Emperor still held the title " Grand Duke of Posen " until 1918.

It was the principal residence ( winter residence ) of the Hohenzollern Kings of Prussia from 1701 to 1918 ( the German Emperors from 1871 to 1918 ) and a museum following the fall of the German Empire in 1918.

Since the abolition of the German monarchy in 1918, the heads of the House of Hohenzollern have claimed to be the titular Kings of Prussia and German Emperors.

The Greek Orthodox branch of Christianity continues to use the Greek translation ( the Septuagint ), but when a Latin translation ( called the Vulgate ) was made for the Western church, Kingdoms was first retitled the Book of Kings, parts One to Four, and eventually both Kings and Samuel were separated into two books each.

Many elements of the lament are borne out in the historical narrative in 2 Kings concerning the fall of Jerusalem: Jerusalem lying in ruins ( Lamentations 2: 2 and 2 Kings 25: 9 ), enemies entering the city ( Lamentations 4: 12 and 2 Kings 24: 11 ), people going into exile ( Lamentations 1: 3 and 2 Kings 24: 14 ) and the sanctuary being plundered ( Lamentations 1: 10 and 2 Kings 24: 13 ).
