Knock (, meaning The Hill – but now more generally known in Irish as Cnoc Mhuire, " Hill of ( the Virgin ) Mary ") is a village in County Mayo, Ireland.

Knock, from the Gaelic, An Cnoc ( a small hill ), is a village in Point peninsula on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Kingston has appeared in a number of British-produced television dramas, including Grange Hill, Crocodile Shoes, The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, The Knock and a guest role on The Bill.

The distillery was founded in 1893 by John Morrison, who bought the land from the Duke of Fife to produce whisky for Haig's after several springs on the southern slope of Knock Hill were discovered.

The low hill on the other side of the bay is the imaginatively named Cnoc Mòr (' big lump ')

Cnoc Fírinne ( meaning ' Hill of Truth ') takes its name from Donn, who is said to forewarn the local people of bad weather by gathering up rain clouds around him on the hill.

Additionally, the water used for production, from Cnoc nan Speireag ( Hawk Hill ), flows over peat which adds additional peatiness to the whisky.

The boar is believed to have had its lair in the vicinity of Knockane or “ Cnoc na Chollag ” ( Hill of the Boar ) and the animal is believed to have laid waste to the area between Knockane and Killamucky or “ Choill na Mhuice ” ( the Wood of the Pig ).

A prominent hill called Cnoc Samhna " Hill of Samhain " also known as Ard na Ríoghraidhe " Height of the Kingfolk " south of Bruree, County Limerick is associated with a tale connected to Mongfind.

To mark this infamous act the name of the village was changed to ‘ Cnoc na Crocaire ,’ the Hill of the Hangings, now anglicised as ‘ Knockcroghery ’..

Two IRA men, Cornelius and Jerimiah Delaney, were killed in their beds at home in Dublin Hill ( though Con Delaney survived to December 18 ).

* Minahikosis ( Little Pine, French: ‘ Petit Pin ’, Chief of the Plains Cree, born about 1830 in the vicinity of Fort Pitt, Saskatchewan, his mother was a Blackfeet, became famous in the 1860s, as armed Plains Cree to find the last remaining bison, penetrated more and more into the territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy, led three years bitter resistance, signed however, in view of his starving people in 1879 the Treaty 6, and moved into a reserve at the foot of Blue Hill along the Battle River, his reputation was comparable to that of Mistahimaskwa ' (' Big Bear '))

Seth Reed fought at Bunker Hill, and was " instrumental " in adding E Pluribus Unum, (' From Many, One '), to U. S. Coins.

1885: Two years after the Broken Hill Mining Company ( private company ) was established by a syndicate of seven men from the Mt Gipps sheep station, the company was incorporated to become The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (' BHP ').

Other hills include Hallival, Trollaval (' mountain of the trolls '), Barkeval, and Sgurr nan Gillean ( Gaelic: " peak of the young men ") in the Cuillin and Ard Nev, Orval, Sròn an t-Saighdeir and Bloodstone Hill in the west.
