The dedicatee long remained unidentified, but John Harley's researches into the heraldic design on the fly-leaf have shown that she was Lady Elizabeth Neville, the third wife of Sir Henry Neville ( Gentleman of the Privy Chamber ) of Billingbear in Berkshire, who was a Justice of the Peace and a warden of Windsor Great Park.

Sir William's wife, Lady Elizabeth, was the daughter of Henry, 5th Lord FitzHugh and Lady Alice Neville.

Lady Alice's family, the Neville's, were already established at court being descendants of John of Gaunt's daughter Lady Joan Beaufort and her second husband, Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmoreland.

When the Duke of Gloucester became King in 1483, as Richard III, both Elizabeth and her mother Alice were appointed ladies-in-waiting to Alice's niece, queen consort Lady Anne Neville.

It is thought that, in 1533, Catherine spent her time with the widow of her cousin Sir Walter Strickland, the Dowager Lady Strickland, Catherine Neville at the Strickland's family residence of Sizergh Castle in Westmorland ( now Cumbria ).

The Dowager Lady Strickland was kin to Parr's next husband, John Neville.

Lady Anne Neville ( 11 June 1456 – 16 March 1485 ) was Princess of Wales as the wife of Edward of Westminster and Queen of England as the consort of King Richard III.

John Beaufort's granddaughter Lady Margaret Beaufort, a considerable heiress, was married to Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond.

This gave the succession to his cousin Lady Jane Grey, the granddaughter of Henry VIII's sister Mary Tudor, who, after the death of Louis XII of France in 1515 had married Henry VIII's favourite Charles Brandon, the first Duke of Suffolk.

However, more importantly to focus on were the disasters that many women, such as Lady Jane Grey, suffered due to being married into the royal family.
