The Lager Beer Riot occurred in Chicago, Illinois in 1855 after Mayor Levi Boone, great-nephew of Daniel Boone, renewed enforcement of an old local ordinance mandating that taverns be closed on Sundays and led the city council to raise the cost of a liquor license from $ 50 per year to $ 300 per year, renewable quarterly.

However nativist its editorials may have been, it was not until February 10, 1855 that the Tribune formally affiliated itself with the nativist American or Know Nothing party, whose candidate Levi Boone was elected Mayor of Chicago the following month.

Levi Day Boone ( December 6, 1808 in Kentucky -- January 24, 1882 ) served as mayor of Chicago, Illinois ( 1855 – 1856 ) for the American Party ( Know-Nothings ).

Despite the poverty the family was plunged into by the death of Squire Boone, Levi graduated from the medical school of Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in 1829 at the age of 21.

He ran for re-election the following year against Levi Boone, of the American Party and lost with 47 % of the vote.

In 1855, the Know Nothings elected Levi Boone mayor, who banned Sunday sales of liquor and beer.

In 1855, Chicago Mayor Levi Boone threw Chicago politics into the national spotlight with some dry proposals that would lead to the Lager Beer Riot by the wets.

The school underwent many changes until Cooper's nephew, Levi Cooper Lane, established a new campus at the intersection of Webster and Sacramento Streets in 1882 ; at that time, the school was christened Cooper Medical College.

Henry M. Hoyt was grandson of Daniel and Ann ( Gunn ) Hoyt, nephew of Levi Hoyt.

His father, Squire, was a nephew of Daniel Boone's, making Levi Boone's great-nephew.

Notable wedding guests included Julian Rumsey ( mayor of Chicago and Dole's first cousin ) and Levi Leiter ( first partner with Marshall Field ).

The current Benton County courthouse, located in Fowler, was designed by Gordon P. Randall of Chicago and built in 1874 by Levi L. Leach at a cost of $ 62, 257.

In 1895 he married Mary Victoria Leiter, the daughter of Levi Ziegler Leiter, an American millionaire of German Mennonite origin and co-founder of the Chicago department store Field & Leiter ( now Marshall Field ).

Marshall Field & Company traces its antecedents to a dry goods store opened at 137 Lake Street in Chicago in 1852 by Potter Palmer, eponymously named P. Palmer & Co .. Four years later, in 1856, 21-year-old Marshall Field moved to Chicago from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, finding work at the city ’ s then largest dry goods firm: Cooley, Wadsworth & Co. Just prior to the Civil War, in 1860, Field and bookkeeper Levi Leiter became junior partners in the firm, then known as Cooley, Farwell & Co.

Levi Ziegler Leiter ( November 2, 1834 – June 9, 1904 ) was a Chicago businessman.

William Levi Dawson ( April 26, 1886 – November 9, 1970 ) was an African-American politician and lawyer who represented Chicago, Illinois for more than 27 years in the United States House of Representatives.

Director taught antitrust courses at the law school with Edward Levi, who eventually would serve as Dean of Chicago ’ s Law School, President of the University of Chicago, and as U. S. Attorney General in the Ford administration.

The corresponding noun " esotericism " was coined in French by Jacques Matter in 1828 and popularized by Eliphas Levi in the 1850s.

Daniel's nephews, Jesse and Jonathan ( sons of brother Israel Boone ), were founders of the town's first church, Three Forks Baptist, still in existence today.

Daniel's father, Squire ( his first name, not a title ) Boone ( 1696 – 1765 ) emigrated from the small town of Bradninch, Devon ( near Exeter, England ) to Pennsylvania in 1713, to join William Penn's colony of dissenters.

The Chicago and North Western Railway encouraged development of mines in Boone and Moingona.

In 1881-82, the Chicago and Erie Railroad was built through the township and the post office moved to the current location of Boone Grove.
