In 1933, after the assassination of Nadir Khan, Mohammed Zahir Shah became king.

Zahir Khan was proclaimed King ( Shah ) on 8 November 1933 at the age of 19, after the assassination of his father Mohammed Nadir Shah.

In 1973, while Mohammed Zahir Shah was in Italy undergoing eye surgery as well as therapy for lumbago, his cousin and former Prime Minister Mohammed Daoud Khan staged a coup d ' état and established a republican government.

In the early 1990s, after the Soviet withdraw from Afghanistan, control of Mazar was contested by the Hazara milita Hezbe Wahdat, led by Hajji Mohammed Mohaqiq, the Tajik militia Jamiat-e Islami, led by Ahmad Shah Massoud and Burhanuddin Rabbani, and the Uzbek militia Jumbesh-e Melli led by Abdul Rashid Dostum.

He was the son of Mohammed Nadir Shah, a senior member of the Barakzai royal family and commander in chief of the Afghan army under former king Amanullah Khan.

Nadir Shah was a descendant of Sardar Sultan Mohammed Khan Telai, half-brother of Amir Dost Mohammad Khan.

Sardar Mohammed Daoud Khan or Daud Khan ( July 18, 1909 – April 28, 1978 ) was Prime Minister of Afghanistan from 1953 to 1963, and later became the President of Afghanistan.

After he failed to enter the United States, bin al-Shibh took on more of a " coordinator " role in the plot, and a link between Atta in the United States and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in Afghanistan.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was a member of Osama bin Laden's terrorist group al-Qaeda organization, although he lived in Afghanistan, heading al-Qaeda's propaganda operations from sometime around 1999.

According to different sources, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was born in Kuwait City, Kuwait, on March 1, 1964, or April 14, 1965, to parents who had roots in Balochistan, a province of Pakistan bordering Iran and Afghanistan.
