During the summer of 1989, New Order supported Technique by touring with Public Image Ltd, Throwing Muses and The Sugarcubes across the United States and Canada in what was the press dubbed the " Monsters of Alternative Rock " tour.

Outside of sports Philips sponsors the international Philips Monsters of Rock festival.

In 1989, PiL toured with New Order and The Sugarcubes as " The Monsters of Alternative Rock ", an arrangement of disparate alternative bands that predated the Lollapalooza festival by two years.

The band launched its own tour that May and later took part in a Monsters of Rock tour in the Soviet Union, where they opened for Mötley Crüe and Queensrÿche, among others.

One of the band's few appearances in the UK was on 18 August 1990 at Donington's Monsters of Rock festival in the summer of 1990.

The last concert came in Nuremberg on 4 September, at the Monsters of Rock festival, after which the band members went their separate ways.

The Download Festival is a three day rock music festival held annually at Donington Park, England ( which hosted Monsters of Rock between 1980 and 1996, and 2002's Ozzfest ).

The Download Festival was conceived as a follow up to the Monsters of Rock festivals which had been held in at the Donington Park circuit between 1980 and 1996.

In 2002 the Ozzfest tour returned to the UK using Donington Park as their only British event and the following year Live Nation picked up the reigns as Monsters of Rock's predecessor in the name of Download Festival.

Rimensberger also linked the name Metal Hammer with other successful brands such as the BBC ( Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance ), MTV Metal Show with Bailey Brothers and Castle Donington Monsters of Rock Festival.

He later formed a band called More that played at the Donington Monsters of Rock Festival in 1981.

Donington Park was the original venue for the Monsters of Rock festivals through the 1980s and 1990s, and is now the home of the annual Download Festival.
