Father James ( Jimmy ) Tompkins and Dr. Moses Coady were key organizers in Nova Scotia of the first building co-operatives.

Moses Coady, a noted son of the Margaree Valley, attended school in Margaree Forks and later, taught there before completing his education in Antigonish and Rome.

The Antigonish Movement which started in the 1920s in Nova Scotia, through the work of Doctor Moses Coady and Father James Tompkins, has been particularly influential in the subsequent expansion of community economic development work across Canada.

The Antigonish Movement was eventually institutionalized in the form of the Extension Department at St. Francis Xavier, which was headed by Tompkins ' double-cousin Father Moses Coady and which included Father ( Dr .) Hugh MacPherson, A. B.

Most Christians believe that the kosher food laws do not apply to them as they are no longer under the Law of Moses, and that, as Jesus taught in Mark 7: what you eat doesn't make you unclean but what comes out of a man's heart makes him unclean — although Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy have their own set of dietary observances.

Then-Archbishop Moses Daoud was elected Patriarch of Antioch for the Syrian Catholic Church on 13 October 1998.

The book is as intriguing for the themes it leaves out as for what it includes: the ark of the covenant, which is given so much importance in the stories of Moses and Joshua, is almost entirely missing, cooperation between the various tribes is limited, and there is no mention of a central shrine for worship or of a high priest ( the office to which Aaron was appointed at the end of the Exodus story ).

The figure of Osarseph in Hellenistic historiography is a renegade Egyptian priest who leads an army of lepers against the pharaoh and is finally expelled from Egypt, changing his name to Moses.

An Egyptian priest named Moses, who possessed a portion of the country called the Lower Egypt, being dissatisfied with the established institutions there, left it and came to Judaea with a large body of people who worshipped the Divinity.

Manetho for instance in a distorted account reported in Josephus, states that Moses was originally Osarseph a renegade priest, who led a band of lepers out of Avaris ( referred to as Raamses in the Bible ).

After Joshua's death, Eli the priest left the tabernacle which Moses erected in the desert and established on Mount Gerizim, and built another one under his own rule in the hills of Shiloh.

In 1 Samuel 9: 6-20, Samuel is seen as a local “ seer .” The Deuteronomistic Historians preserved this view of Samuel while contributing him as “ the first of prophets to articulate the failure of Israel to live up to its covenant with God .” For the Deuteronomistic Historians, Samuel was extension of Moses and continuing Moses ’ function as a prophet, judge, and a priest which made historical Samuel uncertain.

One of them, ( Judges 18: 30 ), is due to an alteration of the original out of reverence for Moses ; rather than say that Moses ' grandson became an idolatrous priest, a suspended letter nun ( נ ) was inserted to turn Mosheh into Menasheh ( Manasseh ).

Zelophehad's daughters petitioned Moses, Eleazar the priest, the chieftains, and the whole assembly, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting for their right to inherit his property rights in the Land of Israel.

Certain religious and political functions were reserved for the Levites, and the early sources of the Torah — the Jahwist and Elohist — appear to treat the term Levi as just being a word meaning priest ; scholars therefore suspect that " levi " was originally a general term for a priest, and had no connection to ancestry, and that it was only later, for example in the priestly source and Blessing of Moses, that the existence of a tribe named Levi became assumed, in order to explain the origin of the priestly caste.

The second vision portrays seven angels bringing Levi seven insignia signifying priesthood, prophecy, and judgement ; in the vision, after the angels anoint Levi, and initiate him as a priest, they tell him of the future of his descendants, mentioning Moses, the Aaronid priesthood, and a time when there would be priest-kings ; this latter point was of particular interest to the Maccabean period of John Hyrcanus, who was both a high priest, and warrior-king, though according to textual scholars this is to be expected, since the Testament of Levi was written during Maccabean rule, between 153BC and 107BC, and closer to the latter date.
