In 1854, he along with his Derozian friend Peary Chand Mitra started the Bengali journal Masik Patrika, for the education and empowerment of women.

Amongst its organisers were Ramtanu Lahiri, Sib Chandra Deb and Peary Chand Mitra.

Trachand Chakrabarti was its president, Ramgopal Ghosh its vice president and Peary Chand Mitra its president.

Support for Peary came again in 2005, however, when British explorer Tom Avery and four companions recreated the outward portion of Peary's journey with replica wooden sleds and Canadian Eskimo Dog teams, reaching the North Pole in 36 days, 22 hours – nearly five hours faster than Peary.

Robert Edwin Peary, Sr. ( May 6, 1856 – February 20, 1920 ) was an American explorer who claimed to have led the first expedition, on April 6, 1909, to reach the geographic North Pole.

The first human inhabitants of Ellesmere Island were small bands drawn to the area for Peary caribou, muskox, and marine mammal hunting about 2000 – 1000 BC.

Harold ( Hal ) Peary ( July 25, 1908 – March 30, 1985 ) was an American actor, comedian and singer in radio, film, television and animation remembered best as Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a supporting character on radio's Fibber McGee & Molly that moved to its own radio hit, The Great Gildersleeve, the first known spinoff hit in American broadcasting history.

Peary Rader ( 1909 – 1991 ) was an early bodybuilder, Olympic lifter, writer, and magazine publisher from Nebraska.

The Jordans were experts at transforming the ethnic humor of vaudeville into more rounded comic characters, no doubt due in part to the affection felt for the famous supporting cast members who voiced these roles, including Bill Thompson ( as the Old Timer and Wimple ), Harold Peary ( as Gildersleeve ), Gale Gordon ( as LaTrivia ), Arthur Q. Peary returned the favor in a memorable 1944 Fibber McGee & Molly episode in which neither of the title characters appeared: Jim Jordan was recovering from a bout of pneumonia ( this would be written into the show the following week, when the Jordans returned ), and the story line involved Gildersleeve and nephew Leroy hoping to visit the McGees at home during a train layover in Wistful Vista, but finding Fibber and Molly not at home.

1970 also saw the merger of Blair-Bedford Area Council ( Altoona ), William Penn Council ( Indiana, PA ) and Admiral Robert E. Peary Council ( Johnstown, Pennsylvania ) into the current Penns Woods Council in Ebensburg.
