The Newcastle Falcons ( formerly Gosforth FC / Newcastle Gosforth until 1996 ) is an English rugby union team currently playing in the RFU Championship, as of June 30, 2012.

Northampton Saints had an unbeaten home record that stretched from March 2007 to March 2009, much of this record was set during the Saints ' 2007 / 08 promotion from the RFU Championship ( previously National Division One ).

On 4 April 2009, the club secured promotion to the revamped RFU National 1 Division, remaining unbeaten in the 2008 / 2009 season.

On 7 May 2011, the club secured promotion to the RFU Championship for the 2011 / 2012 season.

On 1 June 2012 it was revealed that Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish had approached Rugby Union team London Welsh about a possible ground-share, as their plans to play their matches at Kassam Stadium were deemed unsuitable by the RFU, after securing promotion to the English Premiership.

The RFU are threatening to deny London Welsh their rightful promotion unless they can come to a compromise.

As the best English and Welsh players were on tour in New Zealand at the time, Great Britain was represented by the Cornwall county team, who were chosen by the RFU as an appropriate side after they defeated Durham in the 1907 English county championship.

London Welsh Rugby Football Club ( Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Cymry Llundain ) are a rugby union club based in Oxford that played in The RFU Championship and were promoted to the Aviva Premiership in 2012, after a successful appeal.

On 16 May 2012, rugby union club London Welsh applied to move their home ground to the Kassam Stadium following promotion from the RFU Championship, and their opening Premiership fixture was played there on 2 September 2012.

On 30 May 2012, rugby union side London Welsh RFC played the second leg of the 2011 – 12 RFU Championship Play-off final with the Cornish Pirates at the Kassam Stadium.

The following season Newcastle didn't play in Europe as English teams did not take part but they did go onto the Tetley's Bitter Cup final against Wasps which they lost 29-19.
