The Radisson Blu Hotel Hamburg Airport was added in 2009, combined with new roadside access and a station and connection to the rapid transit system of Hamburg ( S-Bahn ).

The Basel Regional S-Bahn, the commuter rail network connecting to suburbs surrounding the city, is jointly operated by SBB, SNCF and DB.

The city is served by Munich S-Bahn ( S2 ) and Deutsche Bahn via Dachau railway station located in the South of the town.

With the exception of the line from Wuppertal to Remscheid ( and continuing to Solingen and operated as the RB 47 ) and the Prince William Railway to Essen ( now S-Bahn line S 9 ), all of the branch lines connecting to main line in the city of Wuppertal are now closed.

In Germany the term Stadtbahn ( to be distinguished from S-Bahn, which stands for Stadtschnellbahn ) was used to describe the concept, and many in the UMTA ( now called the Federal Transit Administration ) wanted to adopt the direct translation, which is city rail ( the Norwegian term, bybane, means the same ).

The city also plans to build a metro system ( S-Bahn ) because of locally overloaded trams and to lessen the congestion on the surface.

The more expensive, the City Airport Train, connects the airport directly to Wien Mitte station close to the city center in just 16 minutes ( where S-Bahn trains also stop ).

Bochum has a central station situated on the line from Duisburg to Dortmund, connecting the city to the long-distance network of Deutsche Bahn as well as to the S-Bahn network of Rhine-Ruhr.

Line 8 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn connects the city to Düsseldorf and Hagen ; an extension further westwards is presently being discussed.

* Glasgow's SPT Rail network fits the model of an S-Bahn, with a large network of differentiated lines, with frequent services, and purpose-built lines under the city centre.

The main part of Merseyrail ( the Northern and Wirral lines ), is a textbook S-Bahn, with regular, fixed interval services, lines under the city centre, and dedicated lines and stock.

* In London, Thameslink has some features in common with S-Bahn, such as the heavy rail rolling stock and the underground city centre section with Cut and Cover tunnels: in a few years ' time, however, it will look far more like a mainline that just happens to make it all the way across London, though with an S-Bahn-like middle section and suburban services sharing tracks with the mainline trains.

* Chicago — Metra Electric Line extending southward from the city, and NICTD's South Shore Line into northern Indiana, share several features with S-Bahn lines such as dedicated trackage, grade separation, high level platforms, and electrification.

This is served by lines S5, S7, S15 and S40 of the Zurich S-Bahn, the first three of which provide frequent ( 6 trains per hour ) and fast ( 36 minute journey time ) links to the city of Zurich.

The central square in Mitte is Alexanderplatz with the prominent Fernsehturm ( TV tower ), Germany's highest building, and the large railway station with connections to many subway ( U-Bahn ), tramway ( Straßenbahn ), city trains ( S-Bahn ) and buses.

The Berlin S-Bahn (" Schnellbahn ", literally " city train ") is a rapid transit system in and around Berlin, the capital city of Germany.

Unlike the U-Bahn, the S-Bahn crosses the Berlin city and state border into the surrounding state of Brandenburg, e. g. to Potsdam.

The S-Bahn is operated by S-Bahn Berlin GmbH, a subsidiary of the Deutsche Bahn, whilst the U-Bahn is run by BVG, the main public transit company for the city of Berlin.

There are several bus lines running between the city districts, neighbouring towns, and the closest S-Bahn railway station on the border with Langenfeld.

The O-Bahn – from the Latin omnibus (" for all people ") and the German bahn ( railway, as in S-Bahn and U-Bahn ) – was conceived by Daimler-Benz to enable buses to avoid traffic congestion by sharing tram tunnels in the German city of Essen.

Together the S-Bahn, the Hamburg U-Bahn, the AKN railway and the regional railway form the backbone of railway public transport in the city and the surrounding area.

Similar to Berlin and unlike Hanover the S-Bahn in Hamburg is an important part of public transport within the city of Hamburg due to its dense schedule and its good coverage of the city's metropolitan region.

Unlike both Berlin and Hanover, the S-Bahn in Hamburg is of little importance for regional traffic, since the S-Bahn network lies mostly within the city boundaries though the S3 line in the southwest in 2007 was extended about 32 km into the state of Niedersachsen ( the part Neugraben-Stade with seven new stations ).

Popular destinations include the Grunewald trails north from the Onkel Toms Hütte U-Bahn station and neighborhood shopping center, the walk from Krumme Lanke U-Bahn station to the lake of the same name, and the cross-Zehlendorf walk from the end of the U-Bahn at Krumme Lanke to the S-Bahn station in the center of old Zehlendorf.

Zehlendorf shopping center has undergone major changes with plenty of new construction centering around the S-Bahn station " Zehlendorf ".

These trains usually connect larger agglomerations to the suburban areas, although in the case of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn these also serve as a method of interurban transport between large cities.

Relatively few cities have a full-fledged underground U-Bahn system, and S-Bahn ( suburban commuter railway ) systems are far more common.

The future Crossrail also shares a number of features ( segregated suburban services, cross-city connections ), with S-Bahn.

Originally, the Underground was conceived and used like an S-Bahn, with suburban trains diverting under their termini and heading across Central London.

The metro suburban railway ( Vienna S-Bahn ) also has a stop called " Zentralfriedhof " close to the old Jewish part of the cemetery.

The suburban rail service is provided by rapid transit trains ( S-Bahn ).

Local tickets are valid on S-Bahn suburban rail services and other train services but these are operated by the state railway operator, ÖBB.

Hallein can be reached by suburban S-Bahn railway from the city of Salzburg.

The plaza has undergone another major renovation when the S-Bahn station for suburban trains was opened in 1978.

It is located on the site of the historic Lehrter Bahnhof, and until it opened as a main line station, it was a stop on the Berlin S-Bahn suburban railway temporarily named Berlin Hauptbahnhof – Lehrter Bahnhof.

On 1 December 1930, the newly electrified suburban trains were given the designation S-Bahn, making the Lehrter Stadtbahnhof an S-Bahnhof.

In some areas of Germany an urban railway called S-Bahn is in operation.

Baden can be reached by the Süd Autobahn ( A2 ) and is linked with the Südbahn railway line ( including S-Bahn line S9 ) at the Baden train station as well as with the Badener Bahn tram-train to Vienna.

Leipzig will also be connected to this railway, but since it is a terminus station ( though the Leipzig City Tunnel is currently under construction, the route will be shared with S-Bahn trains, making it unlikely that it will be used as a through station for Berlin-Munich trains ), Halle is more likely to be used as an intermediate stop for Berlin-Munich trains.

In 1922, the railway system, that connected Berlin to its neighboring cities and villages was electrified and transformed into the S-Bahn, and a year later Tempelhof airport was opened.

Rapperswil-Jona is one of the most significant traffic junctions in the region, and Rapperswil railway station is serving as nodal point for the SBB-CFF-FFS respectively Südostbahn and S-Bahn Zürich lines.

The other three stations are Jona railway station, served by lines S5 and S15 of the Zurich S-Bahn, Kempraten, served by line S7 of the Zurich S-Bahn, and Blumenau, served by the regional train to Ziegelbrücke and Linthal.

This is especially true for the ones which run both in the streets and on true railway ( often S-Bahn ) tracks.

Rödermark lies within the area covered by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, and on the grounds of Ober-Roden railway station ’ s favourable location, it is the terminus of Rhine-Main S-Bahn line S1 and a station on RMV line 61.

Friedberg's main station is on the Main-Weser Railway and is the northern terminal of Frankfurt's S-Bahn line S6 and also a stop for German Intercity trains and several regional railway lines.

This replaced the airport's shuttle bus service which ran every twenty minutes, more frequently than the S-Bahn, but took longer to reach the airport and railway station.

Feldbach railway station is a stop of the S-Bahn Zürich on the line S7.

It has a station on the important railway between Dortmund and Duisburg and is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn lines S1 and S3.

Near the border to Mitte the former S-Bahn station Lehrter Stadtbahnhof was demolished to make space for the new central station Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Europe's largest two level railway station, where the east-west and the north-south railway axis meet.

Large areas of the town are still undeveloped and green expanses fuse in with several high-rises, with a brook passing by the Rathaus ( Town Hall ) and running close to the S-Bahn railway line, that joins the river Nidda ( which in turn is a tributary of the River Main that flows through Frankfurt am Main ).

Wannsee is served by the Berlin S-Bahn lines S1-as terminus-and S7 at the Berlin-Wannsee railway station.

Close to the U-Bahn station Rathaus Spandau is the Berlin-Spandau railway station of the Berlin S-Bahn line S75 and the Deutsche Bahn for regional and intercity transport.

Berlin Jungfernheide is a railway station located at Charlottenburg-Nord, in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin, served by the S-Bahn lines and, the U-Bahn line and Regional-Express trains of the Deutsche Bahn.
