The most prominent verismo baritones included such major singers in Europe and America as the polished Giuseppe De Luca ( the first Sharpless in Madama Butterfly ), Mario Sammarco ( the first Gerard in Andrea Chénier ), Eugenio Giraldoni ( the first Scarpia in Tosca ), Pasquale Amato ( the first Rance in La fanciulla del West ), Riccardo Stracciari ( noted for his richly attractive timbre ) and Domenico Viglione-Borghesi, whose voice was exceeded in size only by that of the lion-voiced Titta Ruffo.

Other elected officers include Dusty Rhodes ( Auditor ), Joe Deters ( Prosecutor ), Simon L. Leis, Jr. ( sheriff ), Theodore B. Hubbard, ( Engineer ), Wayne Coates ( Recorder ), Robert A. Goering ( Treasurer ), and Lakshmi Sammarco ( Coroner ).

Some prominent practitioners of full-throttle Verismo singing during the movement's Italian lifespan ( circa 1890 to circa 1930 ) include the sopranos Eugenia Burzio, Rosina Storchio and Adelaide Saraceni, the tenors Aureliano Pertile, Cesar Vezzani and Amadeo Bassi, and the baritones Mario Sammarco and Eugenio Giraldoni.

It starred Gian Sammarco as Adrian Mole with Julie Walters playing his mother.

He attended a large number of performances at Covent Garden during the first decade of the 20th century, and heard many of the leading lower-voiced male singers of the age, including the baritones Titta Ruffo, Pasquale Amato, Mattia Battistini, Mario Sammarco and the basses Marcel Journet, Édouard de Reszke and Pol Plançon.

The work was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, on 28 March 1896 with Evelina Carrera, Giuseppe Borgatti ( who replaced Alfonso Garulli at the eleventh hour ) and Mario Sammarco in the leading parts of soprano, tenor and baritone respectively.

He made his Chievo debut on September 18, coming on in the second half for Paolo Sammarco.

His main Italian rivals in the period between his debut in 1889 and the outbreak of World War I were: Mattia Battistini, Antonio Scotti, Giuseppe Pacini, Antonio Magini-Coletti, Giuseppe Campanari and Giuseppe Kaschmann ( born Josip Kasman )— and, from a younger generation of verismo opera-influenced baritones, Titta Ruffo, Riccardo Stracciari, Pasquale Amato, Giuseppe De Luca, Eugenio Giraldoni, Mario Sammarco, Domenico Viglione-Borghesi and the promising newcomer Carlo Galeffi.

Caruso sang his music, as did Sammarco, Tagliabue, Gigli, and other great singers from that era, and also quite a few in modern times, such as Fiorenza Cossotto, Mirella Freni, Renato Capecchi, and fellow Tortonese Giuseppe Campora.

( Giuseppe ) Mario Sammarco ( December 13, 1868, although some sources say 1867-January 24, 1930 ) was an Italian operatic baritone noted for his histrionic ability.

Sammarco was born in Palermo, Sicily, and studied locally with Antonio Cantelli.

The Chicago-based AACM, a loose collective of improvising musicians including Muhal Richard Abrams, Henry Threadgill, Anthony Braxton, Jack DeJohnette, Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman, Famadou Don Moye, Malachi Favors and George Lewis was formed in 1965 and included many of the key players in the nascent international free improv scene.
