# Siegfried ( died 24 October 1184 ), Bishop of Brandenburg from 1173 – 1180, Prince-Archbishop of Bremen, the first ranked prince, from 1180 – 1184

In the Epic poetry | epic poem Nibelungenlied ( Song of the Nibelungs ), Siegfried is famously stabbed in the back by Hagen ( legend ) | Hagen.

Often depicted in carvings c. 800 AD, the Norse hero Gunther ( also known as Gunnar ), played a lute with his toes as he lay dying in a snake-pit, in the legend of Siegfried.

In the Völsunga saga, Attila ( Atli in Norse ) defeats the Frankish king Sigebert I ( Sigurðr or Siegfried ) and the Burgundian King Guntram ( Gunnar or Gunther ), but is later assassinated by Queen Fredegund ( Gudrun or Kriemhild ), the sister of the latter and wife of the former.

Other candidates were Prince Siegfried I of Anhalt and Margrave Frederick I of Meissen ( 1257 – 1323 ), a young grandson of the excommunicated Emperor Frederick II, who however did not yet even have a principality of his own as his father still lived.

The N-VA stems from People's Union ( Dutch: Volksunie, abbreviated as VU ), a Belgian political party and broad electoral alliance of Flemish nationalists.

The People's Union separated into two parties, the social liberal Spirit and the centre-right New-Flemish Alliance ( N-VA ), which formed a cartel with the Christian Democratic and Flemish ( CD & V ) party.

The militant wing also still comprises several moderate groups such as the New Flemish Alliance ( N-VA, Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie ), and several extra-parliamentary organisations, many of which are represented in the Overlegcentrum van Vlaamse Verenigingen ( OVV, Consultation Centre of Flemish Associations ).

Given the difficulties experienced in the 2007 Belgian government formation after the federal elections, and the victory of the New Flemish Alliance ( N-VA ), in the 2010 federal elections, the likelihood of Flanders seceding from Belgium appears greater than before.

The Flemish nationalist party New Flemish Alliance ( N-VA ) ( which became the largest party in 2010 ), among other Flemish parties, said in 2010 that they want to abolish the Senate.

In the Flemish coalition agreement of 2004, the issue was included as " to be realised immediately ", signed by the three large Flemish parties Christian Democratic and Flemish ( CD & V ), Flemish Liberals and Democrats ( VLD ) and Different Socialist Party ( SP. A ), in addition to the Flemish-nationalist New Flemish Alliance ( N-VA ) ( the at that time CD & V cartel partner ) and the left-liberal Spirit ( the at that time SP. A cartel partner ).
