Sir Christopher Wren has since the eighteenth century been claimed by the Lodge of Antiquity No. 2, one of the four founding Masonic Lodges of the Grand Lodge of England in 1717, to have been its Master at the Goose and Gridiron at St. Paul's churchyard, while he was rebuilding the cathedral: he is said to have been " adopted " on 18 May 1691 ( that is, accepted as a sort of honorary member or patron, rather than an operative ).

Their eighteenth-century maul with its 1827 inscription claiming that it was used by Wren for the foundation stone of St. Pauls, belonging to the Lodge and on display in the Freemasons ' Grand Museum, corroborates the story, which is debatable mainly because it would have been in the interests of the Lodge and the Craft to fabricate it.

By the standards of his time a gentleman like Wren would not generally join an artisan body ; however the workmen of St Paul's cathedral would naturally have sought the patronage or " interest " of their employer, and within Wren's lifetime there was a predominantly gentlemen's Lodge at the Rummer and Grapes, a mile upriver at Westminster ( where Wren had been to School ).

Works in Ireland include the Irish National War Memorial Gardens in Islandbridge Dublin, which consists of a bridge over the railway and a bridge over the river Liffey ( unbuilt ) and two tiered sunken gardens ; Heywood Gardens, County Laois ( open to the public ) consisting of a hedge garden, lawns, tiered sunken garden and a belvedere ; extensive changes and extensions to Lambay Castle, Lambay Island near Dublin consisting of a circular battlement enclosing the restored and extended castle and farm building complex, upgraded cottages and stores near the harbour, a real tennis court, a large guest house ( The White House ), a boathouse and a chapel ; alterations and extensions to Howth Castle, County Dublin ; the unbuilt Hugh Lane gallery straddling the River Liffey on the site of the Ha ' penny Bridge and the unbuilt Hugh Lane Gallery on the west side of St Stephen's Green ; a Lodge at Costelloe, County Galway ( that was used for refuge by J Bruce Ismay the Chairman of the White Star Line following the sinking of the Titanic ) and a hunting lodge near Rosapenna in northern County Donegal, most recently used as a youth hostel.

Smyth moved to Stone near Aylesbury in 1842, and still had the opportunity to use the telescope since his residence at St. John's Lodge was not far from its new location, and he performed a large number of additional astronomical observations from 1839 to 1859.

The old Manor house, Harefield Place, adjacent to St Mary the Virgin church, was replaced in 1786, when a new mansion house was built at Harefield Lodge.

St Mary's Lodge on Lordship Road, the 1843 home of architect and district surveyor John Young, is the last-surviving of several grand detached houses built in the area around that time for well-off members of the new commuter class.

Deer Lodge was also once an important railroad town, serving as a division headquarters for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (" the Milwaukee Road ") before the railroad's local abandonment in 1980.

The largest was called Royal Island, another St. Joseph ( after the patron saint of the expedition ), and the smallest of the islands, surrounded by strong currents, Île du Diable ( the infamous " Devil's Island ").

He was of Catholic faith and was buried in Bordeaux ; in 1919 his remains were transferred to the Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida in Madrid.

* 1797 – French Revolutionary Wars: Battle of Cape St. Vincent – John Jervis, ( later 1st Earl of St Vincent ) and Horatio Nelson ( later 1st Viscount Nelson ) lead the British Royal Navy to victory over a Spanish fleet in action near Gibraltar.

During the Second World War, Fort William was the home of HMS St Christopher which was a training base for Royal Navy Coastal Forces.

Between 1705 and 1710 the French built Fort Royal at St. George's which is now know as Fort George.

The shield of the Royal Arms of New South Wales crowned with the St Edward's Crown is employed as the badge of the governor, appearing on the viceroy's flag and on other objects associated with the person or the office.

The grave of Princess Yourievsky ( 1878-1959 ) who was a member of the ill-fated Russian Royal family and who lived in North Hayling for many years, may be found in St. Peter's churchyard ; and the grave of Scotsman George Glas Sandeman, nephew of the founder of Sandeman Port and second head of that company, is prominently featured in the north-east part of St. Mary's graveyard.

Campaigns for constitutional reform during the 19th century successfully called for: the replacement of lay Jurats with professional judges in the Royal Court to decide questions of law ; the establishment of a Police Court ( later known as the Magistrate's Court ); the creation of a Petty Debts Court ; a professional, salaried police force for St Helier in addition to the Honorary Police ; and the reform of " archaic procedure of the Royal Court for criminal trials ".

He became a House Officer at St Vincent's Hospital and then Royal Children's Hospital before becoming severely ill with bilateral pneumococcal pneumonia.

He attended King Edward VI Grammar School and following two years in the Royal Air Force read law at St Peter's College, Oxford.

Today, a number of orders of knighthood continue to exist in several countries, such as the English Order of the Garter, the Swedish Royal Order of the Seraphim, and the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.

She was baptised into the Anglican faith in the Chapel Royal at St. James's, and was named after her ancestress, Mary, Queen of Scots.
