From 1870 to 1876, he wrote much of his seminal work such as Statism and Anarchy and God and the State.

In 1874 Marx wrote notes on Bakhunin's " Statism and Anarchy ".

After the Paris Commune ( 1871 ), Bakunin characterised Marx's ideas as authoritarian, and predicted that if a Marxist party came to power its leaders would end up as bad as the ruling class they had fought against ( notably in his Statism and Anarchy ).

In Statism and Anarchy, Mikhail Bakunin identified a " statist " tendency within the socialist movement and contrasted it with anarchist socialism, arguing that Karl Marx's theory of transition from capitalism to socialism in which the working class seized state power in a Dictatorship of the proletariat would eventually lead to a usurpation of power by the state apparatus acting in its own self-interest.
