One of the prominent victims of the political rivalry, the famous poet and statesman Su Shi ( 1037 – 1101 ), was jailed and eventually exiled for criticizing Wang's reforms.

One of the greatest literary critics of this was the official and famous poet Su Shi.

The poet and statesman Su Shi and his associate Mi Fu ( 1051 – 1107 ) enjoyed antiquarian affairs, often borrowing or buying art pieces to study and copy.

The genre of Chinese travel literature also became popular with the writings of the geographer Fan Chengda ( 1126 – 1193 ) and Su Shi, the latter of whom wrote the ' daytrip essay ' known as Record of Stone Bell Mountain that used persuasive writing to argue for a philosophical point.

In ancient China there was Sunshu Ao ( 6th century BC ), Ximen Bao ( 5th century BC ), Du Shi ( circa 31 AD ), Zhang Heng ( 78-139 AD ), and Ma Jun ( 200-265 AD ), while medieval China had Su Song ( 1020-1101 AD ) and Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ).

Several of its greatest poets were capable government officials as well including Ouyang Xiu ( 1007 – 1072 ), Su Shi ( 1037 – 1101 ), and Wang Anshi ( 1021 – 1086 ).

The Daqin Pagoda is first attested in 1064, when the Chinese poet Su Shi visited it and wrote a well-known poem about it, " Daqin Temple ".

However, great exponents of the form, such as the Southern Tang poet Li Houzhu and the Song Dynasty poet Su Shi, used the ci form to address a wide range of topics.

Prominent examples of Song poets include Su Shi ( Dongpo ), Ouyang Xiu, Lu You and Yang Wanli.

The poet and statesman Su Shi ( 1037 – 1101 ) and his accomplice Mi Fu ( 1051 – 1107 ) often partook in these affairs, borrowing art pieces to study and copy, or if they really admired a piece then an exchange was often proposed.

The famous clock tower of the Su Song built by 1094 during the Song Dynasty would employ Yi Xing's escapement with waterwheel scoops filled by clepsydra drip, and powered a crowning armillary sphere, a central celestial globe, and mechanically-operated manikins that would exit mechanically-opened doors of the clock tower at specific times to ring bells and gongs to announce the time, or to hold plaques announcing special times of the day.

These " lobbyists ," such as Su Qin ( who advocated vertical alliances ) and Zhang Yi ( who advocated horizontal alliances ), were famous for their tact and intellect, and were collectively known as the School of Diplomacy, whose Chinese name ( 縱橫家, literally ' the school of the vertical and horizontal ') was derived from the two opposing ideas.

It has been a tourist goal for more than a thousand years, and the site features inscriptions from famous poets and calligraphers like Su Shi and Dong Qichang.

Another well-known panoramic view is from Longshan ( Mt Long ), where the famous ancient poet Su Shi ( 1037 – 1101 ) once wrote a poem.

His brother Su Zhe () and his father Su Xun () were both famous literati.

The poem, To the tune of ' Of Jinling ' ( 江城子 ), remains one of the most famous poems Su wrote:

In his famous work of song poetry, Drinks at West Lake through Sunshine and Rain ( 飲湖上初睛居雨 ), renowned scholar Su Dongpo compared Xi Shi's beauty to the West Lake.

However, Sun Quan also thought that Lu Su was incompetent in managing diplomatic ties as compared to Zhang Yi and Su Qin, two famous strategists and diplomats in the Warring States Period.

One night in early 1075, about 10 years after her death, Su Shi dreamed of his wife, then composed this famous ci.
