Cycling is a popular means of transport in many parts of the New Territories, where new towns such as Shatin, Tai Po and Sheung Shui have significant cycle track networks.

By 1100 AD, the Tai had established themselves as Po Khuns ( ruling fathers ) at Nan, Phrae, Songkwae, Sawankhalok, Chakangrao, etc.

In the 12th century, the Tai Po Khuns of the upper Chao Phraya coalesced around the Po Khun of Sukhothai-an important Khmer outpost.

However, during the reign of Jayavarman VII, the Khmer power was strengthened and the Tai Po Khuns were subdued and brought under Khmer suzerainty.

The New Lantao Bus provides major bus services within the island, where you can get to Tai O and Po Lin Monastery from Mui Wo pier.

The date for the takeover of the New Territories was fixed as 17 April 1899 and Tai Po was chosen as the administrative centre.

Before the handover in early April, Captain Superintendent of Police, Francis Henry May and some policemen erected a flagstaff and temporary headquarters at Tai Po and posted the Governor's proclamation of the takeover date.

Two routes were suggested for the British Section, a western route of about from the tip of Kowloon peninsula via Tsuen Wan to Castle Peak Bay and thence to Yuen Long and the border with China, and a more direct eastern route of about requiring tunnelling through the Kowloon hills and thence to the border via Tide Cove ( now Sha Tin area ), Tai Po, Fanling and Sheung Shui.

Although the formal approval of the Colonial Office in London was not given until February 1906, the Governor, Sir Matthew Nathan, had anticipated a positive outcome and had already instructed the Public Works Department to start earthworks on the route from Tai Po Market to Fan Ling in December 1905.

Tai Lam Country Park is at the west of New Territory with an area of 54 km².

The Theatre is situated at Yuen Long Tai Yuk Road in the vicinity of Yuen Long Park, Yuen Long Stadium and the Public Swimming Pool.

According to many guidebooks, Lake Tai is best seen from the scenic viewpoint in Xihui Park ( 錫惠公園 ) in the west of Wuxi ( 無錫 ), from the top of Dragon Light Pagoda ( 龍光塔 Lóng Guāng Tǎ ), from which both Wuxi and Lake Tai are visible.

The park borders Westland Tai Poutini National Park along the Main Divide.

The area surrounding Tai Mo Shan is a known as Tai Mo Shan Country Park, which covers an area of 14. 40 km².

It is located to the north of Tai Lam Country Park.

The Rotary Park at Tai Mo Shan is especially popular.

A Man Tin Cheung Memorial Park and " Man " ancestral hall and residences ( Tai Fu Tai ) in San Tin is a popular historical attraction in Hong Kong.

Tai Lam Country Park (), established on 23 February 1979, is a country park located in the Tai Lam, at the south of Yuen Long and east of Tuen Mun, in the western New Territories of Hong Kong.

There are several ferry piers on the island: Park Island Ferry Pier on the northeast, one on the old Tin Liu village on the west ( formerly hosting Sham Tseng ferries ), Man Wan Public Pier on the southwest at Ma Wan Main Street Village, Tai Pai Tsui Pier on the south of the island facing Tang Lung Chau, one on the north of the island used for the garbage removal, one on the southeast side ( but on a Government land not open ).

Tai O is a fishing town located in the northwest of Lantau Island which is more than three centuries old.

Turtle Cove Beach is accessible by bus No. 14 from exit A of the Sai Wan Ho MTR station or mini-bus 16X from Chai Wan ; the beach is located near the Red Hill estate stop ( past the Tai Tam Reservoir ).

Lam Tsuen River Tai Po is located in the north of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Note Printing Limited, which prints all the bank notes in Hong Kong, is located in the Tai Po Industrial Estate, an industrial area of light industries ( food processing, printing, etc.

Mei Yuan is also located in Lake Tai.

At the time Zhou Tai stationed at Ruxu fort, Zhu Ran and Xu Sheng were located there as well, and did not want to submit to Zhou Tai's command citing his common background.

A famous Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kamakhsi Tai temple is located on the bank of river Pennar, from Nellore.

Tai Mo Shan (; is the highest peak in Hong Kong, with an altitude of 957 m. It is located at approximately the geographical centre of the New Territories.

Tai Mo Shan Visitor Centre is located not far away from the carpark, along Tai Mo Shan Road, which leads to the weather station on the top of the mountain.

The Cruising Association has a purpose-built headquarters at Limehouse Basin, and the John Ding Academy Tai Chi centre ( opened March 2005 ) is located in the retail unit of Berglen Court.
