Both worked on Talking Heads ' highly-acclaimed 1980 album Remain In Light which brought polyrhythmic afrobeat influences to Western music.

Other bands were becoming regulars at CBGB, such as Mink DeVille and Talking Heads, which moved down from Rhode Island.

Over time, " New Wave " acquired a distinct meaning: Bands such as Blondie and Talking Heads from the CBGB scene ; The Cars, who emerged from the Rat in Boston ; The Go-Go's in Los Angeles ; and The Police in London that were broadening their instrumental palette, incorporating dance-oriented rhythms, and working with more polished production were specifically designated " New Wave " and no longer called " punk ".

Despite David Byrne's lack of interest in another album, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison reunited for a one-off album called No Talking, Just Head under the name The Heads in 1996.

Tom Tom Club's self-titled debut album sold almost as well as Talking Heads themselves, leading to the band appearing in Stop Making Sense.

The band Radiohead took their name from the Talking Heads song " Radio Head " from the 1986 album True Stories.

The band released several albums related to the Talking Light concept, including the instrumental albums Dollar General and Chuck's Ghost Music, live album Bimbo's Talking Light, and studio album Lonely Teenager.

Rei Momo ( 1989 ) was the first solo album by Byrne, after leaving Talking Heads, that features mainly Afro-Cuban, Afro-Hispanic, and Brazilian song styles including popular dances including merengue, Cuban Son, samba, mambo, cumbia, cha-cha-chá, bomba, and charanga.

The Talking Heads song can be found on their 1986 album ( and soundtrack to the David Byrne film of the same name ), True Stories ; the Talking Heads song has been covered regularly by Widespread Panic, whose performance of the song can be heard on their live album, Light Fuse, Get Away.

John Lodge would make a defining shift in his songwriting on this album, leaving his trademark high-energy rock music, and instead gravitating towards slow love ballads such as " Lean On Me ( Tonight )" ( though he had earlier contributed some songs in this gentler vein such as " Emily's Song " for his daughter in 1971 and " Survival " in 1978, plus " Talking out of Turn " in 1981 ), while Lodge's more powerful songs continued with " Magic " and the Lennonesque " Shadows On the Wall ".

The second album was Geisha Boys and Temple Girls for the dance troupe Hot Gossip, which used songs formerly recorded by The Human League and Heaven 17, and a track each from Sting and Talking Heads.

They recorded the Street Corner Talking album in 1971 on Parrot / Deram Records, which included one of Savoy Brown's biggest hits " Tell Mama ", written by Raymond, and they headlined a tour over Rod Stewart and The Grease Band in early 1971, as persistent touring was beginning to pay off for the Savoys.

Their 1984 album Turning Point featured their final Top 40 hit, a cover of Talking Heads ' " Slippery People " ( which also reached the Top 5 on the Dance chart ).

After the tour John Popper and Lisa Bouchelle recorded the song " Only The Tequila Talking ", which was released on her album Bleu Room with a Red Vase in 2010.
