The Springfield / Ozark Mountain Ducks were a minor league team that previously played in Ozark, Missouri, a suburb of Springfield.

In addition, the Springfield / Ozark Mountain Ducks of the Central Baseball League moved to Pensacola and assumed the Pelicans name.

The area is also widely known — particularly in Mountain View — as a cultural center of music and crafts associated with the Ozark Mountains region.

The Ozark Folk Center is a unique state park located in Mountain View that works to preserve the region's culture.

Collingsworth, Childress, Hall, Briscoe, Swisher, Castro, and Parmer counties along with Curry and Roosevelt counties in New Mexico raised $ 10, 000 in 1920 to erect markers along already existing roads to mark the Ozark Trail from Oklahoma across Texas to New Mexico.

The eastern half of the county is on the Ozark Plateau, with flat areas divided by deep stream valleys.

Some in the north and northwest part of the county is now part of the Mark Twain National Forest, along with several acres in the southeast part of the county being part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways Park.
