Sultan Said Ali bin Said Omar of Grande Comore ( 1897 )

In 1886 Said Ali bin Said Omar, Sultan of Bambao, signed an agreement with the French government that allowed France to establish a protectorate over the entire island of Ngazidja ( Grande Comore ; protectorates were also established over Ndzwani ( Anjouan ), and Mwali ( Mohéli island in French ) the same year.

He also became a financial adviser to the then Sultan of Brunei Omar Ali Saifuddien III, in 1966.

Inside the Mausoleum itself are the remains of the last four sultans, Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddin ( 1950 – 1967 ), who died in 1986, Ahmad Tajuddin Ibnu Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam ( 1924 – 1950 ), Muhammad Jamalul Alam Ibnu Sultan Hashim ( 1906 – 1924 ), and Hashim Jalilul Alam Putera Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin II ( 1885 – 1906 ).

Omar Khayyám's years in Isfahan were very productive ones, but after the death of the Seljuq Sultan Malik-Shah I ( presumably by the Assassins sect ), the Sultan's widow turned against him as an adviser, and as a result, he soon set out on his Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina.

The Mosque of Omar was built in its current shape by the Ayyubid Sultan al-Afdal bin Saladin in 1193 CE in memory of this event.

At about 9 o ' clock on the night of invasion, Syed Omar telephoned Tunku and told him that the Regent had decided to evacuate the 77 year-old Sultan to Penang, and thence to Singapore.

The rule of Wodeyar dynasty which established the Kingdom of Mysore in southern India in around 1400 CE by was interrupted by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan in the later half of 18th century.

Ibn Battuta recorded his visit to the Kilwa Sultanate in 1330, and commented favorably on the humility and religion of its ruler, Sultan al-Hasan ibn Sulaiman, a descendant of the legendary Ali ibn al-Hassan Shirazi.

In 1792, the first iron-cased rockets were successfully developed and used by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore in India against the larger British East India Company forces during the Anglo-Mysore Wars.

In alliance with the French in their struggle with the British, and in Mysore's struggles with other surrounding powers, both Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali used their French trained army against the Marathas, Sira, rulers of Malabar, Coorg, Bednur, Carnatic, and Travancore.

During this campaign in September 1780, Tipu Sultan was dispatched by Hyder Ali with 10, 000 men and 18 guns to intercept Colonel Baillie who was on his way to join Sir Hector Munro.

In 1846, Brunei Town was attacked and captured by the British and Sultan Saifuddin II was forced to sign a treaty to end the British occupation of Brunei Town.

In the same year, Sultan Saifuddin II ceded Labuan to the British under the Treaty of Labuan.

His Highness's body was laid in state at the " Lapau " ( the former Legislative Building at Bandar Seri Begawan ) before being moved to nearby Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque for a funeral prayer.

In 1828, Pengiran Muda Omar Ali Saifuddin ascended the throne as the 23rd Sultan of Brunei taking the title Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin II.

In the Middle East, faced by the 1958 collapse of the Baghdad Pact and the spread of Soviet influence, Macmillan acted decisively to restore the confidence of Persian Gulf allies, using the Royal Air Force and special forces to defeat a revolt backed by Saudi Arabia and Egypt against the Sultan of Oman, Said bin Taimur, in July 1957, deploying airborne battalions to defend Jordan against Syrian subversion in July 1958, and deterring a threatened Iraqi invasion of Kuwait by landing a brigade group in July 1960.
