In 1969 Norman auditioned for a role in the Los Angeles production of the rock musical Hair, which was playing at the Aquarius Theatre at 6230 Sunset Boulevard, and which was directed by Tom O ' Horgan and produced by Michael Butler and the Smothers Brothers.

The Smothers Brothers are Thomas (" Tom "-born February 2, 1937 ) and Richard (" Dick "-born November 20, 1939 ), American singers, musicians, comedians and folk heroes.

The Smothers Brothers had further television shows: a 1968 CBS summer replacement series, The Summer Brothers Smothers Show ; The Smothers Brothers Show ( 1975 ), initially produced by Joe Hamilton ( who concurrently produced The Carol Burnett Show, starring his wife ), which was an unsuccessful attempt to recapture the look and feel of the original comedy-variety series without the controversy ; and The Tom and Dick Smothers Brothers Specials I and II in 1980.

The Smothers Brothers also lent their ( uncredited ) singing voices to " Tom and Tom, the Brothers Brothers " in In Living Color ( 1990 – 1994 ), and guest starred on Bonnie Hunt's Life With Bonnie in 2004.

Tom Smothers ( born Thomas Bolyn Smothers III on February 2, 1937 ) is an American comedian, composer and musician, best known as half of the musical comedy team The Smothers Brothers, alongside his younger brother Dick.

Tom Smothers negotiated creative control over their next CBS show, a variety show entitled The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967.

Tom has since stated, " When the Smothers Brothers came on the air we had no political point of view or social consciousness, it just evolved as the show was on the air.

In motion pictures, Tom Smothers portrayed corporate-executive-turned-tap-dancing-magician Donald Beeman in one of Brian De Palma's earlier films, Get to Know Your Rabbit ( 1972 ).

To augment their act in recent years, Tom Smothers created the mostly non-speaking character " Yo-Yo Man ", a surprisingly expert performer of difficult tricks using a yo-yo.

He also has a son, Thomas Bolyn Smothers IV ( Tom Jr .), from his first marriage, and one grandson, Phoenix Parrish-Smothers.
