The main ponds in the town are Post Pond, Pout Pond, Trout Pond, Cummins Pond, and Reservoir Pond.

It is home to Trout Pond, which is the largest natural lake in West Virginia.

Trout, salmon, newts and salamanders inhabit the area's streams, and Bullfrog Pond hosts sunfish, Black Bass, and bullfrogs.

Seneca lake has a typical aquatic population for large deep lakes in the northeast, with coldwater fish such as Lake Trout and Atlantic Salmon inhabiting the deeper waters, and warmwater fish such as Smallmouth Bass and Yellow Perch inhabiting the shallower areas.

Trout in, or newly returned from the sea, can look very silvery, while the same fish living in a small stream or in an alpine lake could have pronounced markings and more vivid coloration ; it is also possible that in some species this signifies that they are ready to mate.

Geneva, New York claims the title " Lake Trout Capital of the World ," and holds an annual lake trout fishing derby.

Recent discoveries of burbot in the Green River at Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah have concerned wildlife biologists who fear that the burbot could decimate the sport fish population in what is recognized as one of the world's top Brown Trout fisheries, because it often feeds on the eggs of other fish in the lake like Sockeye salmon.

The largest lake Trout caught in the United States was caught at Priest Lake, and weighed 57 lbs.

Trout was introduced to the lake from Canada in 1940, and kingfish was introduced from Argentina.

It flows out of the lake at Oxford House then southeast over Trout Falls to Knee Lake.

The lake has several species of freshwater Fish ; Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Rainbow Trout, Striped Bass, Channel Catfish, and Shad.
