Entering Bolton on Middle Turnpike East, the traveler encountered a fork and could choose to head southeast on Bolton Center Street ( later Center Street ) to the settlement of Bolton, or stay on Middle Turnpike East to reconnect with Route 44 and head east on the original Mohegan Indian Trail through Bolton Notch, a natural depression in the ridge that dramatically sped up transit and served as a demarcation between the two geologic landscapes.

In the original system of New Jersey highways, the Newark-Pompton Turnpike and Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike were combined to form pre-1927 Route 8, which ran from Montclair to the New York border near Unionville, New York, running along the alignment of current Route 23 north to Sussex and following present-day Route 284 north of Sussex.

After the interchanges with County Routes 535 ( Cranbury Road )., and County Route 606 ( Milltown Road ), Route 18 intersects West Ferris Street, West Prospect Street, Tices Lane, and then meets County Route 527 ( the Old Bridge Turnpike ) at Edgeboro Road.

The Old Conestoga Road was the main path connecting Philadelphia to the west, but in 1792 the new Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike was built, bypassing Strasburg four miles to the north.

The General Assembly specified that the new courthouse should be located in the center of the county, and was established at the corner of Old Little River Turnpike ( now Main Street ) and Ox Road ( now Chain Bridge Road ) on land donated by town founder Richard Ratcliffe.

Wood Green tube station is on Wood Green High Road with Bounds Green tube station to the north of the area and Turnpike Lane tube station to the south, all are on the Piccadilly Line.

Past this intersection, County Route 507 splits from Route 7 by heading north on River Road, County Route 699 heads to the south on Passaic Avenue, and Route 7 continues west, crossing the Passaic River on a lift bridge, known as the Bellrville Turnpike Bridge or Rutgers Street Bridge, into Belleville, Essex County, where the first section of Route 7 ends at an intersection with Route 21.

Here, the road crosses Wickecheoke Creek before coming to an intersection with County Route 579 ( Croton Road / Easton-Trenton Turnpike ).

The one on the left reads Route 23 north U-turn next right while the one on the right reads south U. S. Route 202 Alt County Route 511 Lincoln Park Boonton Service Road with an arrow pointing to the upper right. The road crosses into Little Falls, Passaic County, where it narrows to two lanes and becomes the Newark-Pompton Turnpike.

North of Interstate 80, the road rejoins the route of the Newark-Pompton Turnpike and becomes a six-lane freeway, featuring a cloverleaf interchange with West Belt Road that provides access to the Wayne Route 23 Transit Center.

In New York State, the Great Western Turnpike was started in Albany in 1799 and eventually extended, by several alternate routes, to near what is now Syracuse, New York.

The Great Road became an authorized turnpike in 1785 and extended the turnpike system westward from Alexandria to Snicker's Gap, and beyond to Berryville and Winchester. 2 With the construction of this Turnpike in 1832, travel through Purcellville began to increase — the first stagecoach arrived in 1841.

On December 31, 1936, the Queens Boulevard Line was extended from Roosevelt Avenue to Kew Gardens – Union Turnpike.

In 1826, a privately-operated toll road known as the Manchester and Petersburg Turnpike opened that extended through Chesterfield County between Richmond and Petersburg.

The Tenth New Hampshire Turnpike from Portsmouth was extended through the notch to Lancaster in 1803.

In 1888, this was extended to connect with the main line again at Riverside, creating a loop for trains to run outbound on the main line ( near the present-day Massachusetts Turnpike ) and return on the " Highland Branch ".

This system was scrapped and replaced by the current E-ZPass-compatible system in 1998 for the Ted Williams Tunnel and the Massachusetts Turnpike Boston extension and extended to the rest of the turnpike in 1999.

During the early 1990s, Disney World and Orlando area officials extended and upgraded the road to its current parkway form, widened the lanes from two to four and added an interchange with Florida's Turnpike, with the highway opening on August 18, 1995.

From there, Route 125 was extended along Route 16's former route north to the end of the Spaulding Turnpike in Milton, and NH 125 now carries the White Mountain Highway designation between Rochester and Milton ( map ).

The extended Sunrise Highway would have had interchanges with CR 38 ( North Sea Road ) and CR 39 ( County Road ), CR 79 ( Bridgehampton – Sag Harbor Road ), NY 114 ( East Hampton – Sag Harbor Turnpike ), CR 40 ( Three Mile Harbor Road ), and CR 45 ( Amagansett – Springs Road ) before merging back into the existing Montauk Highway.

In downtown Garland, Highway 78 follows the central streets of Avenues B and D before joining Lavon Drive and moving northeastward, where it formerly was the eastern terminus of the President George Bush Turnpike, which has since been extended to Interstate 30.
