Water skiing is a sport in which an individual is typically pulled behind a boat or a cable ski installation over a body of water, skimming the surface.

Water skiing was invented in 1922 when Ralph Samuelson used a pair of boards as skis and a clothesline as a tow rope on Lake Pepin in Lake City, Minnesota.

Water skiing typically begins with a deep water start, with the skier crouching down in the water.

Aerialists train for their jumping maneuvers during the summer months by skiing on specially constructed Water Ramps for Freestyle Skiing & Snowboarding and landing in a large swimming pool.

The new speed limit for Windermere effectively prohibits speedboats and water skiing in the Lake District ( of the 16 larger lakes in the Lake District, only Windermere, Coniston Water, Derwent Water and Ullswater have a public right of navigation ; speed limits were imposed on the three lakes other than Windermere in the 1970s and 1980s ).

Water skiing is also very popular.

Water skiing, pontoon boating, and fishing are all popular summer activities at the Bull Shoals Lake and White River areas.

Of great touristic importance are the Austrian skiing, hiking and mountaineering resorts in the Alps as well as family-friendly recreation areas ( e. g. the Witches's Water in Tyrol ).

With the popularity of watersports such as Water skiing, Wakeboarding, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing, Poole Harbour Commissioners have designated areas within the harbour almost exclusively for sport participation-virtually unrestricted from most regular harbour rules.

Batchworth Lake is popular for water skiing events and hosts the Rickmansworth Water Ski Club.

Water sports include surfing, ( Manta was the host for the 2004 Bodyboarding World Cup ), scuba diving, water skiing and kitesurfing.

Water skiing in the Yarra was introduced to Moomba in 1961.

He returned to Water skiing at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games and he claimed one gold medal and one silver medal in the men ’ s slalom and jump events on 17 November 2011.

Water skiing is popular above the dam at the Lucky Peak Reservoir.

Water skiing is allowed at this lake only.

Water skiing also takes place on Inniscarra lake and several rowing clubs are based on the Lee including the Lee Rowing Club and Shandon Boat Club.

However, boating Water skiing and jet skiing are not currently allowed on the lake.
