On 14 November 2010, Vice President Xi Jinping visited Singapore on a three day visit which affirmed Singapore's strong ties with China.

Since Jiang Zemin became the national party chief in June 1989, all but one former Shanghai party chief was elevated to the Politburo Standing Committee, the de facto highest decision-making body in China, including Jiang Zemin ( General secretary and President ), Zhu Rongji ( Premier ), Wu Bangguo ( Chairman of the National People's Congress ), Huang Ju ( Vice Premier ), and Xi Jinping ( Vice President ).

These include current General Secretary, president Hu Jintao, the current vice president Xi Jinping, the current chairman of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo, former premier Zhu Rongji, and the former first vice premier Huang Ju.

She met with Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping and the pair spoke for 35 minutes over lunch.

Only Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang are expected to retain their seats.

Xi Jinping, son of Xi Zhongxun, and Deng Pufang, eldest son of Deng Xiaoping, were narrowly elected as alternate members of the Central Commission of the CCP, but were listed on the tail end, due to the low number of votes received.

Of these, Yu Zhengsheng, son of Huang Jing ( 黄敬 ), former mayor of Tianjin, was already a member of the powerful politburo of the CCP ; Wang Qishan, son-in-law of Yao Yilin ( former vice premier and member of politburo ), mayor of Beijing ; Xi Jinping, Bo Xilai, Zhou Xiaochuan, son of Zhou Jiannan ( former minister of First Machinery Ministry and Jiang Zemin ’ s former boss ), governor of the People's Bank of China, have also occupied important positions since the 17th Party Congress.

Before his retirement, however, Zeng used his political strength to secure the elevation of Xi Jinping into the Politburo Standing Committee.

Following his elevation to vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, which oversees the People's Liberation Army, the Princeling and current Vice-President Xi Jinping, is now firmly in line to succeed Hu Jintao when he retires.

Others in the bottom seven, in order from least popular, were Li Changchun ( CPC propaganda chief ), Zhang Gaoli ( then Shandong Party Chief ), Jia Qinglin ( CPPCC Chairman ), Xi Jinping ( then Zhejiang Party chief ), Li Yizhong, and Chen Zhili ( made State Councilor ).

His chief competitors were seen as Xi Jinping, then party chief in the coastal province of Zhejiang, and Li Keqiang, a populist Tuanpai candidate who was the Governor of the central province of Henan.

Through the campaign, Bo gained the support of a number of powerful members of the Politburo Standing Committee, including Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping and Zhou Yongkang, all of whom visited Chongqing or praised Bo's achievements sometime between 2010 and 2011.

His tenure as the number one figure in Shanghai lasted a mere five months, when on 24 March 2007, he was replaced by Xi Jinping, the Party Chief for the nearby province of Zhejiang, as the next Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee.
