Since 1970, they have been known off and on as Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, or simply The Four Seasons.

In 1960, the group known as The Four Lovers evolved into The Four Seasons, with Frankie Valli as the lead singer, Bob Gaudio ( formerly of The Royal Teens ) on keyboards and tenor vocals, Tommy DeVito on lead guitar and baritone vocals, and Nick Massi on bass guitar and bass vocals.

" Despite the last few years of frustration of the Four Lovers, this proved to be the turning point of the group: on a handshake between keyboardist / composer Bob Gaudio and lead singer Frankie Valli, the Four Seasons Partnership was formed.

It was Frankie Valli who spoke with Randy Wood, West coast sales manager for Vee Jay ( not the founder of Dot Records ) who, in turn, suggested the release of " Sherry " to the decision makers at Vee Jay.

In the meantime, The 4 Seasons released recordings under a variety of names, including The Valli Boys, The Wonder Who ?, and Frankie Valli ( every Valli " solo " recording from 1965 to " My Eyes Adored You " in 1975 had the same production team as The Four Seasons that were recorded at the same time-his first post-1950s single without The Four Seasons was 1975's " Swearin ' to God ").

The group's last single on Philips, " Patch of Blue ," featured the group's name as " Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons ," but the change in billing did not alter the act's lack of success in 1970.

A recording that was destined to reach the upper parts of the UK Singles Chart, " The Night ", was not commercially released as a single by Motown in the United States after promotional copies ( showing the artist as Frankie Valli ) were distributed in 1971.

Valli took the tape to Private Stock Records owner and founder Larry Uttal, who, after repeated listenings of the Four Seasons recording, wanted to release it as a Frankie Valli " solo " single.

The new lineup boasted two new lead singers in Don Ciccone ( formerly of The Critters ) and Gerry Polci, who eased the singing load on an ailing Frankie Valli ( who was gradually losing his hearing due to otosclerosis ; eventually, surgery restored most of his hearing ).

However, during a live broadcast on October 8, 1930, Beiderbecke's seemingly limitless gift for improvisation finally failed him: " He stood up to take his solo, but his mind went blank and nothing happened ," recalled a fellow musician, Frankie Cush.

This does not include Frankie Valli solo albums, except for his first solo release.

The group's last single, " Goody Goody " backed with " Creation of Love ," initially retained the " Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers " credit, but they were actually solo recordings ( with backing by session singers ).

Lymon had officially departed from the group by September 1957 ; an in-progress studio album called Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers at the London Palladium was instead issued as a Lymon solo release.

One was Paul Rutherford's ( Frankie Goes to Hollywood ) solo album and first single release ; the other was for Lizzie Tear on the group's own Neutron label.

Frankie Valli went on to a successful solo career.

Slaughter & The Dog's first single on DJM Records was a cover version of " You're Ready Now ", which took it origins from Frankie Valli's solo chart single of 1966.

The most successful of these were Rick Nelson (" Garden Party ", 1972 ), Neil Sedaka (" Laughter in the Rain " and " Bad Blood ", both 1975 ), and Frankie Valli as both a solo artist ( 1975's " My Eyes Adored You ") and with The Four Seasons ( 1976's " December 1963 ( Oh, What A Night )").

* Frankie Lymon was a famous treble singer from the time he recorded " Why Do Fools Fall In Love " with 1950s boy band quintet The Teenagers and into his solo years after 1957.

In early 1975 they signed with Curb Records ( which was distributed by WBR ) just as lead singer Frankie Valli scored a surprise hit with his independently released solo single " My Eyes Adored You ".

Survivor then went on to record more demos for a record deal, including " Rebel Girl ' 98 " and the Frankie Sullivan solo album cut, " Lies ".

Rydell continued to perform as a solo act, and has toured as part of ' The Golden Boys ' successful stage production since 1985 ( with Frankie Avalon and Fabian ).

During his tenure at Blue Peter, he ran in the London Marathon twice and two Great North Runs, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mont Blanc too, completed over 40 solo sky dives with the Royal Air Force, presented a medal at the Commonwealth Games, ran in the 60 metres sprint at the Norwich Union Indoor Athletics against Frankie Fredericks and Darren Campbell and even directed an edition of the show.

Although early single releases of " Why Do Fools Fall in Love " credit Frankie Lymon, Herman Santiago, and Jimmy Merchant as co-writers, later releases and cover versions were attributed to Lymon and George Goldner.

The title song was revived in 1989 as a charity single for an appeal in response to the Hillsborough football crowd disaster, giving Marsden-in association with other Liverpool stars, including Paul McCartney and Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Holly Johnson-another British number one.

This was originally intended as Frankie Goes to Hollywood ’ s second single, but was instead given to Grace Jones.
