Adolphus Ballard ( 22 February 1867 – 1915 ) was an English historian and solicitor.

The eldest son of Adolphus Ballard and Frances Ann née Stafford he was born in Chichester, Sussex, educated in Hastings, Sussex and articled as a solicitor in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire before moving to take up the position of Town Clerk for Woodstock, Oxfordshire.

In the 17th century, the phrase Gott mit uns was used as a ' field word ', a means of recognition akin to a password, by the army of Gustavus Adolphus at the battles of Breitenfeld ( 1631 ), Lützen ( 1632 ) and Wittstock ( 1636 ) in the Thirty Years ' War.

He also claimed that Sweden should take advantage of the on-going turmoil in Russia, later known as the Times of Trouble, and try to place Charles Philip, younger brother of the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus, on the Russian throne.
