The Marine Aerial Navigator insignia is not issued to U. S. Naval aviation personnel and is the only independent aviation insignia issued to the Marine Corps.

The Marine Aerial Navigator insignia is similar in appearance to the Naval Flight Officer insignia and is considered a " successor " to the Naval Aviation Observer ( Navigation ) insignia, issued between March 1945 and March 1947.

The Naval Navigation Observer Badge was later adopted by the United States Marine Corps and, in the modern age, is known as the Marine Aerial Navigator Badge.

Future lift upgrades include the upgrade of the Galaxy double chair to a high speed detachable quad, the upgrade of the North Bowl triple chair to a high speed detachable quad, the replacement of the Patsy's and Groove triple chairs with a single high speed detachable quad, a high speed detachable lift to replace the Aerial Tram that will terminate at the future Powderbowl Lodge, the extension and conversion of the Mott Canyon double chair to a fixed grip quad that will terminate at the top of Dipper Express, the construction of a fixed grip quad between the base of Sky Express and the top of the Gondola, the reinstallation of the Wells Fargo chair, accessing abandoned terrain on the Nevada side, and the upgrading of Sky Express from a high speed detachable quad to a high speed detachable six-pack.

Originally developed in the 1930s as a military base to allow cadets at the nearby United States Military Academy at West Point to learn aviation, it has over the years grown into the major passenger airport for the mid-Hudson region and continues to serve as a military airfield as well, currently housing the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard and Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 ( VMGR-452 ) of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

The nearby village of La Palud is the base station of the Funivie Monte Bianco, the cable car to the Pointe Helbronner linking it to the Vallée Blanche Aerial Tramway going to the Aiguille du Midi where there is a link to the Téléphérique de l ' Aiguille du Midi, the cable car from Chamonix.

The base is also home to the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battlelab.
