The son of Abbad II, Muhammad al-Mu ' tamid ( 1069-1091 ) — who reigned by the title of Al-Mu ' tamid — was the third and last of the Abbadids.

Al-Mu ' tamid went, however, considerably further in patronage of literature than his father, for he chose as his favourite and prime minister the poet Ibn Ammar.

Al-Mu ' tamid came even more under the influence of his favourite wife, Romaica ( also spelt Rumayqiyya in Seville tradition ), even more than that of his vizier.

In politics, Al-Mu ' tamid carried on the feuds of his family with the Berbers, and in his efforts to extend his dominions proved himself capable of as much faithlessness as his father.

In 1080, Al-Mu ' tamid brought down upon himself the vengeance of Alfonso VI of Castile.

Henry Corbin, an authority on Islamic studies, says that in 873, al-Kindi died " a lonely man ", in Baghdad during the reign of Al-Mu ' tamid.

The young Al-Mu ' tamid fell in love with Ibn Ammar.

When Al-Mu ' tamid succeeded his father he recalled Ibn Ammar and bestowed high political and military favours on him.

One night when sleeping together Ibn Ammar dreamt Al-Mu ' tamid was going to kill him and fled.

Al-Mu ' tamid was the father-in-law, through his son, Fath al-Mamun ( d. 1091 ), of Zaida, mistress, and possibly wife, of Alfonso VI of Castile.

Al-Mu ' tamid ( المعتمد ) ( 844 – 15 October 892 ) was the Abbasid Caliph in Baghdad from 870 to 892 and eldest surviving son of al-Mutawakkil.

Al-Mu ' tamid's brother, Al-Muwaffaq, had a claim to the throne and when the Zanj Rebellion started near Baghdad, al-Mu ' tamid summoned al-Muwaffak to help him.

Al-Mu ' tadid was popular in the capital, Baghdad, and al-Mu ' tamid never regained any real power.

Al-Mu ' tamid highest achievement may be the continuation of the era of prosperity that began with al-Muhtadi and lasted until the end of the century.

Al-Mu ' tadid was a brave and energetic ruler.

But it was proven much earlier by Yusuf Al-Mu ' taman ibn Hűd, an eleventh-century king of Zaragoza.

An English version is sung by Sami Yusuf on the album Al-Mu ` allim ( 2003 ), while a Malay version is sung by a popular Malaysian Nasheed group, Raihan.

Sulaymaan as-Sijzee said, ‘ Al-Mu ’ tasim leapt upon hearing that and said, ‘ You have spoken the truth, 0 son of Hanbal .’ Then al-Mu ’ tasim repented, ordered the necks of Bishr al-Mareesee and Ibn Abee Duwaad to be beaten and revered Ahmad ibn Hanbal

Regarding the verse 8 from Surah Al-Mu ’ minoon, Tafsir ibn Kathir says " When they ( the Believers ) are entrusted with something, they do not betray that trust, but they fulfill it, and when they make a promise or make a pledge, they are true to their word.

Ceva's theorem which is often attributed to the Italian mathematician Giovanni Ceva ( d. 1734 ) was proved much earlier by Al-Mu ' taman ibn Had.

During this campaign some of Al-Mu ' tasim's top generals were plotting against the caliph.

Ayyub's son and the newly proclaimed Ayyubid sultan Al-Mu ' azzam Turan-Shah reached Mansurah at this point and intensified the battle against the Crusaders.

In 835 CE, one of the Kurdish leaders revolted against Al-Mu ' tasim, but was eventually suppressed.

Al-Mu ' tazz was thus surrounded by people who were ready for plot or treachery whether against each other or against al-Mu ' tazz :— a poor justification, however, for the course of betrayal and bloodshed which he, not less than they, pursued.

The Emir Al-Mu ' tamin and the Valencians offer the crown to ‘ The Cid ’, but he refuses it and sends the crown to King Alfonso.

The morning after El Cid dies, his body is secured upon his horse and sent out at the head of his army with King Alfonso and Emir Al-Mu ' tamin on either side of his horse.
