The festival is based around Scarborough's West Pier and North Wharf where you will find a maritime themed exhibition, The Cropton Brewery Real Ale Bar and Children's Entertainment and our festival main stage.

Among the real ales brewed by Eldridge Pope Limited were Royal Oak and Hardy's Ale ; these were chiefly associated with the era of Denis Edwin Holliday, head brewer at Eldridge Pope Limited throughout the 1960s and 70s.

In Australia the most popular Amber Ale is from Malt Shovel Brewery, branded James Squire in honour of Australia's first brewer, who first brewed beer in Sydney in 1794.

The brewery thought to be the first to successfully use significant quantities of American hops in the style of APA and use the name Pale Ale, was the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, who brewed the first experimental batch of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in November 1980, distributing the finished version in March 1981.

Anchor Liberty Ale, a 6 % abv ale originally brewed by Anchor Brewing Company as a special in 1975 to commemorate Paul Revere's midnight ride in 1775 which marked the start of the American War of Independence, was seen by Michael Jackson as the first modern American ale.

While marketed as a ' Gold Medal Ale ', Speight's is actually a New Zealand draught style beer, brewed using lager yeast and lagering techniques, so is therefore a lager and not an ale.

" Newcastle Brown Ale " was restricted to being brewed in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in England.

Winter warmer is a traditional malty-sweet English Strong Ale that is brewed in the winter months.

Another historic version was so-called " Majority Ale ," a strong ale brewed on or around the birth of a child, and intended to be drunk on the child's twenty-first birthday.

St David's Ale is brewed to celebrate St David's Day and is available in February and March.

The original Little Creatures Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale brewed with Cascade ( aroma ) and Chinook ( bittering ) whole hop flowers, self-propagated yeast with a secondary bottle fermentation, and Australian malts.
