There is a recumbent statue of Henry III over the tomb, made in polychrome alabaster.

According to museum officials the looters concentrated on the heart of the exhibition: " the Warka Vase, a Sumerian alabaster piece more than 5, 000 years old ; a bronze Uruk statue from the Akkadian period, also 5, 000 years old, which weighs 660 pounds ; and the headless statue of Entemena.

His monument at Broad Hinton is a standing alabaster statue, wearing armour and holding the metal staff of a standard.

A collection of immense importance, the holdings of Assyrian, Babylonian and Sumerian antiquities are among the most comprehensive in the world with entire suites of rooms panelled in alabaster bas-reliefs from highly important sites between the rivers Euphrates and Tigris and include the biblical cities of Nimrud, Nineveh and Khorsabad.

Mellaart, the original excavator, argued that these well-formed, carefully made figurines, carved and molded from marble, blue and brown limestone, schist, calcite, basalt, alabaster, and clay, represented a female deity of the Great Goddess type.

Archaeologists say the artifact is a 1st century Middle Eastern stone vessel, possibly from Antioch, Syria ( now Turkey ); its history can be traced to the 11th century, and it now rests atop an ornate stem and base, made in the Medieval era of alabaster, gold, and gemstones.

The Ottoman Sultan Murad III had two large alabaster urns transported from the ruins of Pergamon and placed on two sides of the nave in the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

His tomb, imported from Paris, was extremely elaborate, carved from gilded alabaster.

One of the largest objects in the collection is the Hertogenbosch Roodloft, from Holland, dated 1610 – 1613 this is as much a work of architecture as sculpture, 10. 4 metres wide, 7. 8 metres high, the architectural framework is of various coloured marbles including columns, arches and balustrade, against which are statues and bas-reliefs and other carvings in alabaster, the work of sculptor Conrad van Norenberch.

It is made from polychromed alabaster.

In the German state of Saxony, the search concluded with an eventual discovery in 1708 by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus that produced a hard, white, translucent type of porcelain specimen with a combination of ingredients, including kaolin clay and alabaster, mined from a Saxon mine in Colditz.

The earliest European porcelains were produced at the Meissen factory in the early 18th century ; they were formed from a paste composed of kaolin and alabaster and fired at temperatures up to in a wood-fired kiln, producing a porcelain of great hardness, translucency, and strength.

These artifacts ranged from a decorated chest, which was most likely used as a closet or suitcase, two ivory and gold bracelets, necklaces, and other decorative jewelry, to alabaster vases and flasks.

Many sets of jars survive from this period, in alabaster, aragonite, calcareous stone, and blue or green glazed porcelain.

The cliffs between Watchet and Blue Anchor show a distinct pale, greenish blue colour, resulting from the coloured alabaster found there.

A brilliant entrance from the central courtyard was leading to the royal apartments in the north part of the palace, which they had view to the tops of Psiloritis, while for their construction had been used alabaster among other materials.

Copper and turquoise were mined at Wadi Maghareh in the Sinai, and alabaster was quarried from Hatnub.

Of Roman period: the Cocceia family sarcophagus, four cinerary urns, a pagan altar dedicated to Diana and an alabaster Hydra dating back to 3rd century.

All the monuments and altars were destroyed when the old church was demolished, except the high altar which is of alabaster, in the Gothic style, and was given early in the fifteen century by D. Bernat Despujol.

By the 15th century there was an industry exporting Nottingham alabaster altar reliefs in groups of panels over much of Europe for economical parishes who could not afford stone retables.

The trade continues today but has declined since the 15th century when alabaster from Derbyshire became popular.

Sir John, an alabaster knight with an inscription in Norman French, is here from the beginning of the 14th century, and from the end of it, in brass, are Robert and Claricia, with a greyhound and two dogs at their feet as they clasp hands, their son Thomas holding his wife's hand near them in a brass of 1405.

Also in the south aisle is a damaged 13th century effigy of a cross-legged knight, conjectured to represent Falco D ' Oyry, and Jacobean alabaster monuments of Adlard Welby, his wife Cassandra and their five children, erected in 1605.

The collection of 620 marble and alabaster statues and sarcophagi dating to the Roman Empire period has been described as the “ most important private museum of sculpture in the world ” by Italian art critic Federico Zeri and, according to The Daily Telegraph, has been “ said to rival ancient sculptures of the Vatican .” The Encyclopædia Britannica considers the most significant of the works a relief of Heracles freeing Theseus and Peirithoos ( 4th century BC, attributed to the school of Phidias ) and a sculpture of “ Hestia Giustiniani ” ( 5th century BC, attributed to Kalamis ).

A Gothic style church was built in the 15th century but only a few parts of it remain intact or were later restored, including the choir stand and the altarpiece in alabaster by Damián Forment.

There, alabaster tubs and other bath fittings were found, along with a sophisticated twin plumbing system to transport hot and cold water separately.

Furthermore several alabaster and travertine fragments of seated statues, which were found by George Reisner during his excavations at Giza, were once inscribed with Khufu's full royal titulary, today the complete or partial preserved cartouches with the name Khufu or Khnum-Khuf are left over.

This theory is promoted by findings such as alabaster vessels with Khufu's name found at Koptos, the pilgrimage destination of Wadi Hammamat travellers.

He notes that " a fragment of an alabaster vase inscribed with a funerary text for the chantress of Amun and King's Wife Mutnodjmet, as well as pieces of a statuette of her found here ... The funerary vase in particular, since it bears her name and titles would hardly have been used for the burial of some other person.

There are several types of alabaster found at the site, including pink, white, and the rare black alabaster.

This black alabaster can be found in only three veins in the world, one each in Oklahoma, Italy and China.

The massive decorated western tower contains a peal of eight bells, four of which were cast in 1628, and in the north aisle can be found a badly defaced alabaster effigy of the knight, Sir John Talbot, who died in 1365.

In fact, alabaster vessels and earthen jars with black ink inscriptions with very similar font design showing Nynetjer's name were found in Periben's tomb.

The sarcophagus in the midst of the chamber is made of finest alabaster and shows an unusual feature: its opening lies at the front side and is sealed by a sliding door, which was still plastered with mortar when the sarcophagus was found.

In 1903 an alabaster pavement was found in the court of the 7th Pylon, and beneath it a shaft leading to a large hoard of almost 17, 000 statues, with every part of the dig drawn, recorded and photographed.
