After a ferocious battle with his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin is left for dead beside a lava flow on Mustafar, and is outfitted with an artificial life support system as well as robotic arms and legs.

In this series, he is a Senate representative who accompanies the main characters — Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Padmé — on their adventures.

During the Rebel Alliance's victory celebrations on Endor, Luke sees the smiling spirits of Obi-Wan, Yoda, and his father, Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin battled Kenobi on the site of a volcano and was badly wounded, but was then reborn as Darth Vader.

Movie trailers for The Phantom Menace focused on Anakin, and a one-sheet poster showing him casting Vader's shadow informed otherwise unknowing audiences of the character's eventual fate.

At the end of the film, Obi-Wan Kenobi's ghost appears alongside the ghosts of Yoda and a redeemed Anakin Skywalker on the forest moon of Endor, watching Luke and his comrades as they celebrate the destruction of the second Death Star.

In escaping the blockade, the ship is damaged and makes an unscheduled landing on Tatooine, where Qui-Gon meets Anakin Skywalker ( Jake Lloyd ), a young slave who shows such tremendous potential in the Force that Qui-Gon believes him to be the " Chosen One " of Jedi prophecy, destined to bring balance to the Force by destroying the Sith.

For his heroics in defeating a Sith ( being the first Jedi in 1, 000 years to do so ), Yoda bestows on Obi-Wan the rank of Jedi Knight, and reluctantly grants him the right to train Anakin.

He and Anakin are required to protect Padmé, now a Senator, after an attempt on her life.

When Anakin and Padmé arrive on Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan, they are themselves captured, and all three are sentenced to death by the Geonosians.

With Obi-Wan on the opposite end of the galaxy, Palpatine — who is in reality Darth Sidious — eventually corrupts Anakin to the dark side of the Force and takes him as his Sith apprentice, Darth Vader.

Throughout the series, he grows increasingly wary of Palpatine's designs on the Republic — and his influence on Anakin.

He also sends Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress ( Grey DeLisle ) on a mission to kill Anakin Skywalker — Sidious ' ploy to test the young Jedi's worth as an apprentice — and trains General Grievous in lightsaber combat.

Dooku and Sidious seek to eliminate Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has a steadying influence on Anakin.

Qui-Gon helps liberate Anakin from slavery when he wagers with the boy's Toydarian owner, Watto, on his victory in the Boonta Eve Classic podrace.

Later during a three-part episode, Qui-Gon appears as a Force ghost twice ; first to Obi-Wan and later to Anakin when they, along with Anakin's Padawan Ahsoka Tano, are trapped on the mysterious planet Mortis.

The sole survivor of the four, R2-D2 becomes part of Qui-Gon Jinn's party on Tatooine and meets C-3PO and Anakin Skywalker.

After Anakin and R2-D2 return from Anakin's massacre of the Jedi, C-3PO and R2-D2 conclude that the latter was the result of emotional pressure on Anakin.

In the novel Labyrinth of Evil, Gunray returns to his home on Cato Neimoidia to plunder what wealth he can, while being pursued by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

He is also mentioned during the Legacy of the Force novel series as to have been present on Zonama Sekot with Anakin Skywalker.

He also uses the Anakin Solo to fire upon the Millennium Falcon, while both his sister and his parents are on board.

Although the Chancellor did hold some degree of political authority over the Jedi, very little pressure was ever put on the Council before Palpatine took office and commanded that Anakin Skywalker become a member of the Council, despite the misgivings of the Jedi.

At Palpatine's urging, Anakin kills the defenseless Count in cold blood, a violation of the Jedi Code.

Anakin then submits to the dark side of the Force, becoming Palpatine's Sith apprentice, Darth Vader.

As Windu reasserts Palpatine's arrest, Anakin suddenly enters the room while Palpatine pleads for his own life.

It was mentioned by George Lucas in the Revenge of the Sith DVD commentary that Anakin thought he was doing the right thing saving Palpatine's life when he cut off Windu's hand with his lightsaber.

After writing the second and third drafts of Empire Strikes Back in which the point was introduced, Lucas reviewed the new backstory he had created: Anakin Skywalker had been Obi-Wan Kenobi's brilliant student and had a child named Luke, but was swayed to the dark side by Emperor Palpatine ( who became a Sith and not simply a politician ).

Michael Kaminski, in The Secret History of Star Wars, offers evidence that issues in Anakin's fall to the dark side prompted Lucas to make massive story changes, first revising the opening sequence of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith to have Palpatine kidnapped and his apprentice, Count Dooku, murdered by Anakin as the first act in the latter's turn towards the dark side.

Dooku and Anakin fight a short duel, and Dooku cuts off Anakin's right lower arm ( which is later replaced by a robotic prosthetic ).

Obi-Wan is rendered unconscious by Dooku, but Anakin defeats the Sith Lord by cutting off both his hands.

Meanwhile, Anakin is angry at the Jedi Council for refusing him the rank of Master, and is also troubled by visions of Padmé, whom he married in the previous film, dying in childbirth.

Obi-Wan wishes to fight Sidious to avoid having to kill his best friend, but Yoda insists that Obi-Wan is not strong enough to fight the new Emperor of the galaxy, and would have to accept that the Anakin he knows no longer exists, having been " consumed by Darth Vader.

Among other notable storylines, he is kidnapped and tortured by Dooku's minion Asajj Ventress before being rescued by Anakin (" Hate & Fear "), and apprehends corrupted Jedi Master Quinlan Vos (" The Dreadnaughts of Rendili ").

In Revenge of the Sith, Dooku is killed by Anakin Skywalker, who eventually replaces him as Darth Sidious ' third apprentice, Darth Vader.

Later, Qui-Gon, voiced by Fred Tatasciore, makes a full cameo appearance in a dream sequence, in which he tells a circa Episode I Anakin to enter a mysterious cave, where the boy will see a vision of his future.

Palpatine eventually finds them, but is wounded by Solo and destroyed when Empatojayos Brand sacrifices himself to save the latter's son Anakin.

There, Gunray finally gets his chance at revenge when Padmé and the teenaged Anakin Skywalker ( Hayden Christensen ) are captured by the Geonosians while trying to rescue the captive Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Gunray welcomes Vader — only to realize that the Sith Lord is in fact Anakin Skywalker, and has come to tie up Sidious ' loose ends by killing them all.

A Jedi strike force, led by Anakin, is to infiltrate a Yuuzhan Vong cloning facility where the invaders craft deadly Jedi-hunting beasts called Voxyn.

* A popular depiction of a leather glove in fiction is the use of such a glove by Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars movies.

The Jedi remaining in the Temple on Coruscant were eliminated by a detachment of elite clone stormtroopers led by Darth Vader, once having been Anakin Skywalker, who single-handedly cut down many Jedi himself — including many children studying as Padawans there.

Shmi informs Qui-Gon that Anakin had no father, leading Qui-Gon to deduce that Anakin was conceived by the midi-chlorians, an example of a miraculous birth.
